I've JUST gotten interested in bead work, and have purchased a small amount of things (beads are 50% off this week at Hobby Lobby), but haven't bought any books nor do I own a loom. I'm planning on making my own loom, and checked out severl books at the library to help get started on seed beads. This gentleman I know asked me to help him install his stereo system and fix his computer this week. He said he would pay me for it, and to be honest, I've been unemployed for nearly 3 months, so I was looking forward to it. Anyway, just before I left (no money was discussed today, but when I go back tomorrow, if he brings it up, I plan to refuse any), he asked me if I had a cordless drill. I thought he needed to borrow one, so I told him I did, but it was cheap and I had lost the charger for it. He said "Good, I've got an extra one you can have!" Then he asked me if my wife crafted, and I told him that she scrapbooked but that was all. I mentioned that I was messing around with bead stuff. Anyway, he gave me a small (like 18 compartment) craft box loaded with beads, a large spool of thread, and promised to dig out the 2 big boxes of beads and books he had before I came over to finish mounting his speakers tomorrow. He used to bead himself, but after his arm was amputated, couldn't anymore. He said he thinks he also has a bead toolkit and a loom somewhere that I could have. How cool is that?!?!?!?!?! I've been down seriously the last few months (I am having SERIOUS trouble finding a job because I'm back in college.... and have a $900+ mortgage) but this has definetely made my week. I got free tools AND new toys! SandalScout
That's frickin' awesome man!!! It's so good to know that there are still decent people out there when life has kicked you in the ass a couple of times. I recently caught the beading "bug". I picked a little loom (you can get about 5 1/2 inches of beadwork out of it) for 7 bucks at Sally's!!! Now, I've got to buy myself some suede to make bracelets and such........
Thats great!! Got to love when stuff like that happens... I helped a friend move and she gave me a sewing machine, sewing table, Books, Fabric, thread.... Everything she had.... (I didnt need any of it.. But was more than happy to recive it ) Its great when craft stuff just falls into your hands.....
