Hello, I've just signed up and wanted to introduce myself. My name's Bruce and I am a poet.I do other things to make a living since poetry doesn't pay that well but I try to forget the money work when I'm not doing it. Big poetry hero is Allen "Ginzy" Ginsberg, big music heroes Bob Dylan, Keith Richards and Willie Nelson. I do my own poetry magazine and have met up with a lot of the great underground poets of the Sixties by doing it, including a few who were at Wholly Communion in '65 with Ginsberg. Great guys. Glad to be a part of the forums. Bruce.
Rock on gypsydavy. I could never publish my poems, to scared someone whouldn't understand, there very pesonal to me, but you even started your own magazine. Wow way cool. Welcome to the forum. I'm kinda new here to but I visit everday cause I like it so much. Hope you sick around for while and I hope to read a poem from ya soon. Peace
Thanks for the welcome, everyone. It's expensive putting out your own magazine but it brings better things into your life than working in a hospital social work department, which is what I do to put money on the table.Ugh. My boss at work is an ultra-conservative woman who's also a magistrate in her spare time. She's never liked me since I put a still from "Easy Rider" on my desk to keep my soul in shape and remind me of the world outside. There's two magistrates in my office, actually. It's like being surrounded by the Man.I can't figure out what'd make anybody want to do that; but I guess somebody has to .... I'm not putting any of my poems out either, right now.Had too many people send them back to me unused and unappreciated. So I can understand your reticence.
HI GypsyDavy, so you're a poet? wow, been trying this poetry lark lately only Im rubbish at it! still, better to be a bad artist than none at all, as some might say! (actually not too sure about that quote but I guess it means that at least i can only get better right?!) anyway Im rambling now.. welcome to the forums!
Hey BanditQueen, Half the people who publish hundreds of poems a year in the magazines are rubbish.Half the time I'm rubbish too...or that's what the other editors tell me! That's a Queens of the Stone Age song you're quoting from isn't it? From "Songs for the Deaf"! Good album. But I've always turned the quote around: "I want something I can live for to make it beautiful to die." Bruce.
