I was very shocked to read this. If you go to the website you can sign your name on the campaign statement. Please take the time out to do it. Up to 350,000 people killed!

    Protect Darfur

Darfur is in Western Sudan. Half of the six million people who live in Darfur are black Africans, the rest are Arab. The Government has shown complicity with long-standing notions of African inferiority among the Arab population, allowing the right of Africans to live in Darfur to be questioned. In recent years Africans have increasingly come to be referred to as 'abid' meaning slave and 'zurga', an exclusionary term equivalent to ******.

Now Africans are being killed and driven from the region. This is a large scale military operation targeted at the men, women and children of the African population in Darfur. The Government of Sudan arms Arab militia (Janjaweed) who terrorize and burn African villages with the support of the Sudanese army and airforce.

In March 2005 it was estimated that as many as 350,000 Africans have been killed. More than 3,200 African villages have been burned. Rape is rife and aerial bombardment has been a common occurrence. Conditions of life impossible for human survival have been imposed. 2.4 million are displaced. The internally displaced people (IDPs) are unable to leave the IDP camps for fear of Janjaweed attack. They are reliant upon humanitarian aid.

Not all Darfur Arabs are perpetrating these crimes. At their own risk, some Arab communities have chosen not to join the Janjaweed. But every African in Darfur is a potential victim. More than two years on, despite humanitarian efforts, political dialogue and the process of justice, civilians in Darfur continue to perish.

TAKE TIME TO SIGN THE CAMPAIGN STATEMENT!
