Apart from probably just this year, doesn't Wellington get the most sunshine hours? (out of the main cities) For best city.. it depends what you want to do. Study? Work? Both?
i'd ask what your motivations are for wanting to move to NZ..if it's because of Bush, i'd advise you take a deep breath. By the time you finish college, the US will be half way through a new president's term. around 1200 more days and the guy's gone. If thats not the reason...here is what i'd suggest: You're going to pay international rates for college if you plan to go to univeristy here, so go to a US university. If you go to a state school you can get your degree for less than it would cost to get one here. While there, study abroad here in NZ(at otago, cause its sweet here) for a year. During that time you can see whether you'd actually like to live here. It's very easy as an American to look at other English speaking countries and think they're just like america. In many ways, we(as americans) are very similar to kiwis(even though i'm sure most would vehemently deny that), but we're also very different. Cricket just doesn't replace baseball and rugby, football. I could list some if you're interested, but they are differences that you need to see and feel. Whatever you decide, think it through carefully. It's very easy in a post bush-election/LOTR frenzy to think "NZ, COOL!" NZ has many things going for it. But it also has its own problems too. Best of luck though. p.s. as for law..yeah, they are more laid back..I would say thats not necessarily a good thing though. The 'worst criminal in nz history' got 30 years for a triple murder with a prior conviction...i'm told life in jail is only 13 years(though they can keep you longer if you're still a threat). Something is fucked up with that, if you ask me. Drug laws, which i assume you're talking about, should be more lenient..especially compared to something like the rockefeller laws. Cops dont carry guns(atleast down here in Dunedin). Also, they just seem to be less pervasive than in the US, but my auckland flatmates keep reminding me that its very different in auckland..so i dunno.
the murderer who got 30 years - are you talking about Bell? If so then wasn't it 30 years until he can be eligible for parole, not 30 years total?...it doesn't mean he'll be free after 30 years.
hehe, were you were watching 60 mins too? yeah that's his minimum period that he has to serve before parole. hopefulle he will never be let out.
yeah i got the end of it...it doesnt seem like anyone is happy with the super pathetic sentences Texas would have burned the guy and made shmores from the fire...not that thats a good thing
yeah nah I'm really glad we don't have the death penalty but i would like to see people like him locked up for life. I'd rather my tax money goes on keeping him in jail than having to spend money on killing people though.
