I love my bourbon whiskey in the US. I read many guides, and they don tlist any whiskey.. If I love Bourbon, should I bring my own JAck Daniels ?
Is there any NEtherlands bourbon whiskey that is good as Tennessee whiskey ?

You can find Jack Daniels and other Bourbons in Amsterdam at most bars.

Check out Excalibur in the RLD for one.

Duty Free is another option, I always buy some
Absolut Vodka and have a few swigs before
hitting the town or put in a hip flask, not that
I'm a drunk but it just makes sense to stagger
the drinking with a few shots of your own stuff.

I feel your pain dude..gotta have bourbon...I dont know anything about the local availability in amsterdam but I do know
Real Bourbon whiskey is exclusively made in the U.S. ...
on a semi related note ( another part of the world)
A buddy of mine told me a story about being in abu-dabi in a bar of sorts and wanting some Jack daniels . The guy behind the bar pulled some out in a dusty velvet case
and charged them something like $150.00 for a 5th of plain old Jack Daniels.

anybody know anything about local homemade booze around the world? I would like to try some homemade hooch from strange lands...we have some great peach shine down here...

I guess I'll be bringing my own 750 bottle with me... its is only $19 here in US. I cant imagine what imported American whiskey would cost in Dam... I would love to sip on some Jack on the rocks and smoke a spliff...

Check out "De Still" on Spui 326 or www.destill.nl. They've got more choices than I even knew existed.

I have a novel concept. Why not hold off on the bourbon and try something new while you're over there? There are plenty of liquors in Holland that are very good. I like my bourbon as well, but I didn't touch the stuff while over there. Why would I when there are so many other things that I can't get back home? Like ABSINTHE!!!

This was back in december. I forgot the names of the places, but I'll talk to velvet and find out. We also saw it sold at the liquor stores.

    Absinthe Bar (Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal)
    Open daily 8pm to 3am ~ 4am weekends

When it comes to Absinthe, there is one rule.
It must have the ingredient ''Wormwood'' in it for it to be
the real deal. So make sure you check the bottle for this
active ingredient and remember to pour it out of the
bottle over sugar in an Absinthe spoon which turns the
liquid into an opaque green grass colour.
Don't over do the stuff as it could wipe you for a few days
and ruin your holiday. It's very easy to be sick on it.

For any UK people reading this you can get Absinthe with
wormwood in large Tesco stores for around £20 per ¾ litre.

V-good question, I too have not been there for many years
so I could'nt tell you if the stuff is the real deal in there.
I went when I was clueless about the wormwood thing but
since learnt that proper Absinthe has been banned since
Van Gogh cut his ear off and peoples life expectancy back
then was short lived because of the stuff.
It's possible, although I have not tried it, to buy the herb
wormwood in smart shops, so in theory I suppose it's
possible to make your own. No idea if it would work though.

yeah....i remember that in 2001 when friends asked about absinthe, they were told to look for the powder and to mix it with alcohol (probably more involved then just mixing it) but they weren't interested in doing any chemistry preperations on vacation! (besides the one in our own heads!)

Can't imagine no one mention the whiskey bar close to Leidseplein yet! They have loads of whiskey.. from cheap ones to ones that'll cost you a whole paycheck.. if you like whiskey, check this place out! It's called L&B's.. opens at 9 o'clock in the evening.. and is located in one of those sidestreets where all the small italian restaurants and steakhouses are.. (when you stand on Leidseplein, facing Burgerking.. enter the street on you right.. around there somewhere). It's a small place, small sign.. and I don't think a lot of tourists go there.. you really want to check it out if you're into whiskey!

I was going to mention the whiskey bar, but I forgot the name of it. Good place, as long as you get a clean glass.

Whiskey bar is a new one on me.
I take it's just a bar with no marijuana smoking.?

Trouble is with Whiskey, it's guaranteed to give you a
hangover the next morning. Well, for me it does.
I'm sure I read somewhere, the darker the spirit, the
worse the hangover. Hmmmmm, not sure though.?

It's 'just a bar'.. but specialised in whiskey.. you can read about it here (log entry #21) http://www.maltmadness.com/l020-029.html

They ambiance is very whiskey-focussed .. lots of bottles on display (expensive ones behind a lock).. there are also possibilities of having special whiskey-tasting evenings, but you have to contact the owner for that.

Aside from whiskey, you can, ofcourse, get other drinks there as well.. so.. it's 'just a bar +' ;)

Ah nice one, will try and pop my head in next time.
I can imagine what it's like though.! I've been to many
Vodka bars with a similar set up.
I think Whiskey is one of those drinks were people hate
it or love it, an acquired taste I suppose.

Nor me, I'm not overly into the stuff, one small shot is
about enough I can take with a pint of lager to take away
the taste, which is called a Depth-Charge.
Don't mind vodka and orange juice or with coke and ice.
