These are a few albums that you may or may not have. Quite a bit of people are always wondering or asking about music that isn't too mainstream or different music. You never hear about them much and it's quite secretive. All musicians need inspiration, so I started thinking about it and I listened to a bunch of albums today and made a list. I also looked up many that I've heard but don't have albums for on Amazon. Oh by the way... a few like Erin Smith Band and Ladybird Sideshow are independent bands on CD Baby. I would also like to add Uncle Shaker Band... they haven't released their debut album yet (almost done, though), but they can be found on soundclick.com and purevolume.. thos kinds of sites... Right now, my favorite independent band is Erin Smith Band/Ladybird Sideshow. http://cdbaby.com/cd/erinsmith4 http://cdbaby.com/cd/ladybird http://cdbaby.com/cd/erinsmith2 http://cdbaby.com/cd/erinsmith3 http://cdbaby.com/cd/erinsmith1
Orsino2, you get some good threads. they are a joy to read. I get to remember some of the sounds I experienced in my life and you turn me on to new ones, Thanks! for musicians' musicians, I'd like to add Fareed Haque Steve Kimock Jacob Fred Jazz Odessy JJ cale's keyboardist Rocky Frisco has a niche Alan Hertz Rodney Holmes Bobby Vega Darroll Anger
Good one, George. More people really should check out this album. It has to be one of the best pop albums of the '70s. Of course this is a good one, too.
Oh Good God, you unimaginable bastard, please refrain from incorrect use of fora smile faces. Rare is the occasion when "teh horn-E fase" is appropriate. Ahahahaaaa... anyways... I never guessed you for a White Stripes fan, Gee-orge.
The Essential Jimmie Vaughan... I'm into jimmie right now... tex-mex and texas blues with rockabilly... The vaughan brothers were the best damn brothers in the music business, imo. HAhaha... omg... I forgot all about john denver. sorry matt
sure ya are.. but JD's writing def inspired many! Check ouut Don Conoscenti for his guitar work. I think you'll like it.
the hippies might show umphreys no love but atleast phil still knows what makes a good band.so the one to get is all the u.m albums
a good band is different from a musician's musician, u-rules. and spreading hate to a group is so gonna get us out to hear them. I have. They are good, but so are a lot of other bands in the same genres. I've yet to see the spark to set them apart. Not saying it isn't there, but I've not seen it. Perhaps it is elusive.
who is spreading hate?all i said was no one threw u.m yet so i was showing sum love.and i think its clear that they are a musicans musician if some of the bands listed so far are in this group, maybe we can run around naked this summer on the um/cheese tour!!!with flowers in are hair..how many times have you seen u.m?if over 5 and you still wonder if they have some elusive spark..you must be hearin some other show.state of mind and feeling at a live show is only a solo trip right..i hear a super tech machine..and get bettrer everytime i see them(some where over 60 shows) its a rock show can you dig?
I like what I've heard from Umphrey's so far. I've only found out about them this year and they're just starting to get more popular. Modern progressive thing moreso than a jam band, from people expecting that, yet, they're getting popular with the jambase crowd. They're a good all around band from the little I've heard. I don't have any albums, but they're on my list... I'm working my way down. If I can, I'm going to try to catch a show from them this year. I'm kind of psyched though because I'm not sure if I can make Dark Star on 4/20 due to some friends going to see widespread panic 'round Salem, VA. Oh well, I'm going to see Trey in Richmond in a week, so no worries...
umrules, I've seen six-seven shows, not festy sets. maybe Colorado doesn't agree with them, acute mountain syndrome (altitude sickness) really sucks, and I've seen it flatten people. as for spreading hate, you bash hippies, but who is helping pay the gas in the UMmobile? the jambase crowd? tour buses are not cheap to run. so tell us who or why the entire band should be considered a musicians' musician.
why should u.m be considered a mus -mus is easy...if your a mus. then you like to hear bands that are tight and good at what they do, and the boys are ninjas in each of their feilds..they are still growing which is fun to see and good for any mus.to watch who is trying them selfs to keep a live act fresh and better each night..and i am not alone, there are many umphreaks and u will see this summer that we are there to support our boys from the good old midwest!!
...Seriously? I had to force myself to listen to the last 6 or 7 tracks on there, the first few were all a pain to listen to, too. I've got that and Slow Dazzle.... in my opinion, they are crap.
I don't know, I liked it from the very beginning. To me, Paris 1919 is exactly what pop music should be. Different strokes and all that bullshit, though.
