    hi all :)

when i was younger and more fucked up than i am now, i usedta harm myself and now as a result have scars down the front lower half of my left arm. i am so usedta them being there that its not been much of a problem and theyve flattened out alot too over the last few years. however to be fair theyre still pretty damn obvious and i was wondering if anyone knew of any ways to reduce them at all. i know scar tissue will never fully go away its just my family doesnt know about them at all and im forever having to cover them up when im out clubbin with my sister or staying at my mums. the other day on tv a comedienne from uk was talking about a programme she made and there was a serious bit in it where her character harms and i felt so uncomfortable watchin it with my mam there and did the whole feign shock as i *realised what she was gonna do* thing. then mam was sayin her opinion on harmers an stuff (she works in casualty)....how she usedta detest them type thing but now she just feels deeply sorry for then and i was tryin to act normal and stuff....i had thought at one point she might know, might have seen them but after what she was saying the other day im pretty sure she doesnt know. but anyway, id like to reduce them if i can . i know cocoa butter is good for scarring and marks and stuff....anything else anyone knows of for me to try??

    cheers

Vitamin E is really good for that...I got some after an accident last year where I slashed my face lol and really it helped a lot...I stopped using it too soon though so it didn't fully heal. but it really still made quite a difference - get it at the drug store, it comes in a bottle with an applicator brush (like a mascara setup) and it should be clear...like make sure nothing's been added to it or anything. It's kind of pricey but it really helped.

You can probably make them fade, but as you said yourself, they won't go away completely. So you may still have a problem if the light fell on them or anything... It probably wouldn't help enough you don't have to cover up at all... :(

If you don't live at home anymore & don't see them all the time, would it work to fake an injury of some kind? Tell them you took a bad fall or whatever slicing open your skin... would have to not see them for a while though so they don't notice the scars are old and faded already (might also be easier in fall/winter when wearing long sleeves is less obvious, than now in spring/summer). I'm guessing that if they truly have no idea you cut, they won't know exactly what the scars look like either... And then you won't have to keep hiding your arm anymore.

Or own up to it, if you think you can make it clear it's quite a while ago and you're really long over it.. yes, hard, but on the other hand, afterwards you'll be over the whole 'what if they do find out' kinda worry... more so than the fake injury 'cause then there's still a chance they discover it's fake, if they drop in at the wrong moment or if they do know better what the scars look like...

Mederma is a cream that contains an onion extract. It is pretty effective at reducing the appearance of scars. It is not too expensive, but it isn't cheap. A small tube is enough to treat 3 square inches, for the whole treatment. If it is larger than that, get the larger tube.

The BEST product is silicone sheets. Plastic surgeons and dermatologists have used them for years. A good brand is Neosporin Scar Solutions. Just follow the directions on the box. One box should be enough, but it is fairly pricey. It runs about $35 per box.
