so here's the story. i ordered a very nice dress from a very nice girl, but it does not fit. it just doesn't...ya know when that happens? (as crafters, i'm sure you do!) the measurements are mostly okay, but a bit off in the waist and much off in the straps. i payed a lot of money for this dress, and at this point, i sort of just feel like returning it all together.

however, i've worked up a bit of over-the-internet rapport with this person, and do not wish to make them feel badly. they've offered for me to send the dress back so it can be fixed up. i'm sceptical.

i realize that, as a crafter myself, this type of endeavour takes lots of time and supplies. i don't want to return the dress for this reason. whatever would she do with a custom made dress? plus, i'm not a standard size. i'm teeny tiny.
i don't want to look at this dress and resent it. i'm thinking i'll just send it back for repairs, and allow bygones to be such.
so allow this to be a lesson learned to all you craft-buyers...caveot emptor. i believe that's in the right direction; let the buyer beware! by no means has this been a bad experience, it's not even been unpleasant. it's just a bit wasteful, and that bothers me. it's just so hard to know how things'll turn out - even when you're using your own body as the model!

can't you just fix it yourself? then you know it's done right.

something similar happened to me, i ordered a custom dress, and when i got it (after waiting 3 months by the way...long after the summer months were over) it was 6 inches too long, and muuuuch too big in the bodice. I could have sent it back, but it wasn't worth the the possibility of waiting another 6 months and paying for extra shipping, and customs taxes and so on. And i payed a good amount for this dress. Now, as you are worried about, i resent this dress. I regret paying so much, and wish i would have returned it altogether, but instead i payed $30 to have it altered at a stitchin store in 3 days. I payed at least $200 to buy and fix this dress and i barely ever wear it because i just get mad at it when i look at it.

WOW... $200 for you to hardly even wear it??? That really sucks!!! I am sorry to hear of both of your situations. I suggest if you are able to fix it yourself then you could save yourself the extra costs and time waiting to see if the dress will come back the way you would like it too. Good luck with whatever you choose to do. :)

Well I think you should send it back for repairs... Properly mark the areas that arnt right .. Like if the straps are to big pin them where you would like them and put a pin where it doesnt fit you right... and a letter explaining exactly how it doesnt fit and also explaining where it fits.. so they know just how to fix it.... Its part of the whole *custom* buying.. It happens.. Give them the change to make good on the dress...

while we do not make the original garment, only the art on it, Paul and I accept returns for any reason.
We make a new piece, if that 's what the customer wants, or refund the costs, including shipping.
One return is actually his fave shirt now.
Straight up crafters should have no problem altering the dress.
I like the pin idea, but think a chalk line would be good, too, in case the pins work their way out.
Let her make it right. I doubt she wants you to be unhappy.

this is always like my main fear about customs...even premade's really..
I am totally always paranoid its not gonna fit right ..

I hope you get it fixed properly..
perhaps taking a pic of you in it would also help the crafter...
