it is hard for me to carry on a normal conversation on the telephone because somehow i am always thinking that someone else is listening. i tell myself that its stupid, but i still always get that feeling. and whenever i walk by a windowin my house, i am convinced that someone was staring in.

The Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act (CALEA) of 1994 made it law that telephone company equipment must have the technology to allow tapping any phone line at any time without even the telephone company's employees knowing. It was sometime last year all telephone companies must be in compliance.

The FBI or CIA can sit in their offices and literally tap any line in the US at any time.

Because of the "war on terrorism", now the Feds can go to your local public library, ask the librarian what books you have checked out/browsed, and the librarian has to tell them, and they are prohibited from informing you that the Feds were there, asking about you!

They might as well burn us, and all our books, at the stake, but then, who would they have to tell their bedtime stories to? They'd have no one to terrorize!

not that they havent been doing this stuff for years anyway, but now its completely legal....and they call it the patriot act, like it has anything to do with being patriotic
