Those Hanoi Jane years may be decades behind her, but there's at least one Vietnam vet who's still spitting mad at Jane Fonda. Literally.


The two-time Oscar-winning actress got a face full of tobacco juice Tuesday in Kansas City during a book signing for her new autobiography, My Life So Far.

After waiting in line for hours, the perp, Michael A. Smith, accosted the actress and onetime war protester for what he and many fellow vets consider her unpatriotic visit to North Vietnam in 1972 when she was photographed on an antiaircraft gun. In her new book and in recent interviews, Fonda says that she regrets her controversial photo op, though not her antiwar sentiment.

But Smith was not buying her mea culpa. He told the Kansas City Star that he took up tobacco chewing for the day for the sole purpose of spitting on Fonda, who he deems "a traitor."

"I consider it a debt of honor," he told the Star. "She spit in our faces for 37 years. It was absolutely worth it. There are a lot of veterans who would love to do what I did."

On Wednesday he said, "Because of Jane Fonda, most Vietnam veterans were spit on when we came back. When I came back through L.A. airport, there were people lined up to spit on us."

Fonda did not press charges against Smith.

"In spite of the incident," she said in a statement Wednesday, "my experience in Kansas City was wonderful, and I thank all the warm and supportive people, including so many veterans who came to welcome me last night."

But K.C.'s finest were not as keen on Smith's spit-fueled protest. Smith, who dashed from the scene immediately after launching the loogie, was quickly corralled by cops and charged with disorderly conduct. He's set to appear in municipal court on May 27.

Witnesses say Fonda kept her cool after the tobacco attack, wiping off her face and then continuing to sign books and answer questions from the 900-plus people who showed up for the signing.

"The important thing is that she was so calm and so gracious about it," said Vivian Jennings, whose Rainy Day Books of suburban Fairway, Kansas, sponsored the event, told the Associated Press. "She was wonderful."

Fonda, meanwhile, is keeping busy with her book promotion schedule and has appearances planned throughout the country. She's also set to appear opposite Jennifer Lopez in the upcoming comedy Monster-in-Law, which opens May 6. It is her first foray on the big screen in 15 years.

 

Jane Fonda continues to expose the insecurity of latent white-male inadequacy.

Smith is probably still pissed that he can't fuck little 11yr old gook-girls anymore.

Little white-dicks sure looked big then.

But at least we can still listen to Rush and vote Republican like big John Wayne!

That was just an unecessary and nasty thing he did to her! Him and his buddies could have just stood outside with signs protesting her.

 

I think what the Vietnam veteran did was great! I mean, c'mon, it's absolutely hypocritical for hippies to think these types of protests are good only for certain narrow, left-wing causes. I think it'd be great whether done to Bush's advisors or to self-righteous leftists who dish it out but can't take it. Why should lefties be exempt from radical protests?

Jane Fonda wasn't enduring what the Vietnam soldiers endured: so typical of the commie supporters back then.

By the way, I oppose the Vietnam war and the notion that a draft should be reintroduced. But I think now and then it's great for leftists to have it coming to them, just like the right.

 

Actually, I think it took a lot of guts. He risked getting arrested and thrown in jail.

 

I'd be curious as to accurate statistics on the percentage of soldiers who "fuck[ed] 11-year-old -----girls."

This wasn't a radical protest, this was an assault.

There have been numerous "assaults" (pie-throwing) on conservative speakers, as documented at FrontPageMag.com on college campuses.

Why the moral outrage when it happens to a leftist?

Why are legal technicalities so suddenly important?

Those who committed assault and battery on conservative speakers on campuses have been given the kid glove treatment.

 

Then the solution is to prosecute the perpetrators of those assaults as well, not to ignore this one because Jane Fonda happens to be a liberal.

 

Strong words and vivid images help to punch through the psychotic delusions of our moral superiority and the psychotic denials of our psycho-sexual motivations

Racism and Classism become increasingly more neurotic as we desperately harness them to bolster our sagging inadequate sexual identity.

Hence the increasingly conservative white-male since our ass whipping in Vietnam.

Shock therapy, though uncomfortable, may help to liberate us from our psychotic momentum.

Jane Fonda may make us feel uncomfortable about ourselves, but in the end, Jane is doing more to reveal ourselves to ourselves than we will ever relize.

In that kind of war, nobody cared enough to keep those kind of statistics.

But it happened, and all too often.

The spoils of racial domination!

Yes, the percentages were probably not huge, but remember, the attractive mystique of Vietnamese girls is that they are small, pettit, and to us, each symbolizes the slender young virgin. Even the older whores!

That mystique casts a strong influence in sexually repressed Patriarchal cultures such as our Judeo-Christian culture.

 

What does all this Sociology mumble jumble have to do with the spitting incident with Jane Fonda, m6m?

Try to picture this. Your a soldier during wartime and you see all kinds of horrible things; people getting killed in the most gruesome way, seeing your friends getting their brains blown out or guts torn out of their bodies. I would have to say that his traumatic experience had more to do with the spitting incident than the desire for a white male to put a woman in her place.

Jane Fonda is a media hor. She went to Vietnam for her career and not to end the war. Look at her career. When she couldn't get an acting job she ends up in Ted Turner's bed. When Ted Turner sells his media empire Jane takes off and writes a book making sure she can keep her face out there. The whole "Hanoi Jane" incident was not forgotten, but put aside until she threw it in our face again.

I will say that spitting in Jane's face was the wrong thing to do but, the guy should get help and not persecuted. Jane will now use the incident to sell more books. The way to deal with media hors, like Jane, is to ignore them and eventually they will go away.

Of course Smith is angry about the tragedy of our involvement in 'Nam.
We should all be angry about that.

The point is this:

Why is Smith directing his anger at Jane Fonda?
Why is Smith not directing his anger at those who perpetrated this tragedy?
Why is Smith not spitting upon the face of the White-Male establishment?

And the answer is this:

Smith, as a White-Man, racially identifies with the perpetrators.
Jane Fonda, by attacking the perpetrators, threatens Smith's identity.
Intense racial identification is a symptom of sexual insecurity.

Sadistically attacking those who would help rescue us from a tragedy, while masochistically supporting the perpetrators of that tragedy, is classic sado-masochism.

Sado-masochism in men is a homo-erotic impulse.

We've all seen this racist homo-erotic pattern before.

Adolf Hitler and the Nazis, instead of attacking the German Militarists who perpetrated the German tragedy in WW1, attacked the Jews and Leftists who turned against that war.

The racist sado-masochism of Hitler and the Nazis is classic homo-eroticism.

To mask the intense homosexual tendencies of himself and the Nazi Movement, Hitler was forced to exterminate all the open 'out-of-the-closet' queer Nazis.

Smith's sado-masochism is but one small example of the latent homosexuallity of the entire White Conservative Movement.
Especially the Conservative Christian Movement.

It is NO coincidence that Ronald Regan was elected soon after our defeat by the yellow slope-heads of 'Nam.

Jane Fonda grew up in this neurotically competitive society, and her ambitions to possess fame and fortune is natural to most of us.

We've all been programmed to desire such fame and fortune.

Nor is it Jane's fault if ambition and success is emotionally unsatisfying.

We're all responsible for creating and supporting this emotionally impoverished society.

She knows that career is the only thing we can truely depend upon in this situation.

Whenever we read about the lives of ambitious and successful people, we are struck by how they naturally seek out other ambitious and successful people.

These people can relate to each other; they share similar lives.

They know their relationships must serve their careers.

That's why ambitious and successful people marry and divorce so frequently.

Don't blame her for her successful ambitions in this competitive dream-world that we're ALL responsible for creating.
