I figured this would be the best place to ask. I am doing a persuasive essay in Adv.English and in American History on Hippies. I want to persuade my peers that Hippies were the most free spirited people and they followed what they believe in. I have looked all over the internet (im not too good at that sometimes) and even though i have typed in different like title idea thingies, i still don't get what i need really. So could you all please help me and give me some facts so i can put them in my persuasive essy. I would really appreicate it. Thanks a lot! Take Care
    ~!~Peace~!~

hmm...a lot of the hippies quit. why? it was hard. they weren't as free as they thought...they were focused on themselves. they could not stand the social pressure. but hippies did not disappear. and among those that lost part of who they were held onto part of their soul. i held onto to vegetarianism, spirituality, and my willingness to explore frontiers. hippies were free spirited and there was sharing, compassion, and tolerance. i have heard that hippies have a spiritual link to young germans that wandered around and were anti-materialistic in the late 1800s. to pursue your theme consider the commune movement, the different approaches to lsd, the disillusionment with "the system", the popularity of eastern religion, the free love movement. while marijuana was still pretty much unknown to most of society, it was a pleasure, a badge of anti-authoritianism, and a hope. the reason i say hope is because straight society said how bad it was and so it was not only doing something illicit, it was sharing a hope that it was in fact not bad for you.
you are making me wax nostalgic because i miss the past and think society would be better today if the hippie message had succeeded. sigh. paradise lost. or memory lost? i would opt for aldous huxley's island. good luck

I know. i apologize for making you miss it, which im sure you do from time to time anyhow. i do wonder a lot if the "hippies" had succeeded in peace, what the world would be like today. i wish i was alive back then to experience the joy and struggle to try to make the world a better place with peace and love and all that. it's like people these days fear to speak out in what they believe in...which is sad.

Yesterday, Today and Tomorow are basicly equal.
there realy were not that many Hippies then and not that many now.
Work on lofe and work on the world.
Be positive within and without, and you have moved the world in a more peaceful direction.

Hey dude: I can't tell you what it was like to BE a hippie back in the 60s as
I was a bit young. I was the kid sister of one. I almost got to go to Woodstock.
Mom said get the cash. I got it. Then she found another reason to say no. My
brother and his band went. I think they played. But it was cool growing up around
them. It shaped me forever. They called them the Flower Children back then and
they sold flowers on the street corners and hung out at Memorial Park in OKC.
My mom liked us hanging out with the hippies as they taught us to be respectful
of others and even our mom. In effect though we only lived around them for
two years or so they shaped me and gave me values. I still hang out with the
modern version. Every chance I can. They are called Rainbows. A lot of the Old
ones try to teach the younger generations the same things they taught me.
Check out Google or any search engine for: The Rainbow Family of Living Light
It should come up with some websights that should be of help. Also hit your
nearest convenient Gathering or Potluck. The websites have the data on when
and where. Good luck. Peace. Cricket Shadowolf

of the hippies Ive met, they are the freest thinkers. they are generally very closed minded. BUT they think differently from what Madison avenue tells em to think. free spirited is to general a term. Hells Angels are free spirited. Evangelistic christians are too. are they not pretty much opposite personalities? Hippies are like everyone else. they are open to new ideas as long as the ne ideas conform with what they already believe. the only truely free spirits are children.
