thought it was very well said,,an is somethin i here more an more brothers an sisters sayin every year...

the question is whats the answer?

    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SERF/message/989
    Ok.
    My turn.
Here are some cold hard facts.
I know I'm about to piss some people off but I don't care.
    The truth is the truth.
I became involved in rainbow in the 80's when even a-camp was kind and gentle. Over the years, while keeping a low profile I've watched a steady decline on many fronts.
Here are just a few examples from 2003 and 2004.

    1) Ocala regional 2003.
Major brawl in bus village involving 6 people (5 of which were front gate wrecking crew) and had it not been for 2 brothers 1 sister and myself intervening (although we did have to get somewhat physical to nutralize the situation) someone may have ended up in the hospital.
After a really kind brother brought in a major kitchen and a number of us went down to build it including errecting a 250 gallon water station, this brother had to return to Tampa to raise money for food to bring back to the gathering. While he was gone a few idiots took it upon themselves to help themselves to his equipment to brew some datura tea in his kitchen. They did this for 4 days which resulted in a 4 day datura nightmare where Mountain his wife Muse and their crew, a few other kind brothers and sisters and myself spent the majority of our time doctoring injuries ( burns-from falling into fires, cuts-from running naked through palmetto bushes, ect) due to recless abuse of the datura plant. On day 5 of the nightmare the wrecking crew marched down to main circle and literally cut the intire kitchen down to the ground. 250 gallon water station and all.
Mishan (a so called brother) physically and or sexually accausted 5 sisters in 5 nights. Many of us were ready to escort him out of the gathering the first time he attacked a sister, however noone would would let us. They wanted to just keep an eye on him so he could'nt do it again. This approach did not work as he did it 4 more times. Some people just don't learn. Finally when the 5th sister was attacked we had had enough. A good number of us teamed up and went after him with the intention of removing him from the site by any means nessessary in order to insure the safety of the sisters and god forbid possibly a child. However before we could find him, realizing Mishan was now in serious danger, Grandpa and Red Hawk snuck him out the back gate because they feared we would hurt him. Hurt him? What about the 5 sisters he hurt? Where was the compasion for them? Mishan was very lucky I didnt catch him because while I am not a violent person one of those sisters was MY SISTER and she and the other 4 sisters deserved justice. Sometimes peace love and granola is simply not enough. There are times when aggresion is nessesarry, because it is all some people understand.
Grandpa misled many people about the pictures he was taking stating they were for his personal album. later we find out he posted these pictures on his web site refering to the rainbow family as destitute and without his help we were starving and useing the rainbow family to raise money. In my eyes this is wrong. Destitue is not a word I would use in reference to the rainbow family and useing any group of people as a means to line your own pockets is morally wrong.
Drugs being sold at trade circle and main circle. And people have the gaull to bitch about a-camp? Consensous when rainbow was born in the 70's was NO DRUGS OR ALCHOHOL. People have no problem with bringing pot, lsd, molly and the like but they bitch about alchohl. What a bunch of F*$%#@g hipocrits. Those people are no better than the american politician. They want to change the rules when it suit their own desires and agenda.
How many times did I hear so called brothers make the statement I'm here for the free drugs and naked hippie chicks.

    2) Alabama holloween gathering 2004
So called focalizers let the forest service choose the site rather than going themselves to scout a site or finding someone who could. Sadly by the time Raven and myself got there it was to late and the site had been selected by the forest service and there was no time to find another. If your going to host a gathering and focalize, do it right or don't do it at all.
The day before seed camp started, drunken stupidity and ignorance accompanied by a physical transgresion against a local teenager who also happened to be a kkk kid, pissed off the local klan kids and resulted in gunfire in the middle of the night. The next morning I packed my shit and left. These drunken idiot fools wanted to call me a coward not realizeing that I left not because I was scared because I was not (I knew I was in no danger), The klan kids did'nt want me. I left because I had finally had enough, and decided that as with many other people I do not want to be asociated with fools, morons, idiots and just plain stupid people.
As far as the Alabama spring gathering is concerned, it is a known fact that it is nothing but a road dog gathering, or as some of us call it a drunken mess

I could go on but I don't have that much time.

So you see, it's not a wonder much of the old family has walked away from the rainbow, and many will follow before it is over. And while while people like Little Hawk are great at quoteing the Hopi prophicy of the warriors of the rainbow, they have yet to learn to live the prophicy.
The rainbow family of living light has got a long way to go before they will ever truely be those mentioned in the prophicy. Till then many like myself and those from back in the day will continue to walk away and not come to the gatherings but rather will sit back and watch in the hopes that the rest of the family gets it together and then we will return.
And don't try to hand me that line of shit about it is up to us to teach the younger generation because for 30 yrs we have tried yet they still don't listen. Maybe they just don't care. I don't know. So maybe it's time for some tough love which means walking away leaving them on their own and hoping they figure it out.
Maybe this pissed you off, maybe it did'nt. If it did, tough shit. The truth is the truth, and you can't hid from it.

( I have no idea who this brother is,or what his motivation is,never met him,,but i no for a fact the stories he refers to are true.)

Very sad stuff. I too am a peaceful person. But *allowing* 5 (!) sisters to be hurt? No way in God's earth could I stand for that to happen. I've noticed drunks and stupidity at too many camps as well. People made it a point to warn me of A-campers specifically at my first gathering in early 2000. Joker said that he had his rifle and gun at his place just because of people like Little Hawk, who I've seen a lot of people praise, but yet he was causing trouble at Shawnee and breaking windshields and shooting them out if all I heard was true. That kind of negativity and destruction, for whatever reason it was for, is such a detriment to the scene.

Ah! Just the thought of 5 sisters being hurt makes me have so many feelings. Sometimes I'm glad I'm not as into the whole peace and love thing, just for cases where someone would hurt another person like that. Respecting the circle is one thing, but at certain times you have to stand up to protect the circle IMO. Joker had that one right.

I agree with Measa420, Although I understand your statement Hippiehillbilly and I appreciate what you have to say.. I must also admit "I" am one of the people that spoke of "A" camp.. Of course I only speak from my perspective on the subject of A camp and I meant no harm by the statements I made.. I somewhat agree on the NO DRUGS NO ALCOHOL statement that you said however I feel that Marijuana and soft drugs are Okay.. Alcohol has the tendency to bring violence on unintentionally which is the only reason I have a problem with A camp as a whole..Please remember tho I respect everyone and their decisions.. As far as that evil man that did things to those sisters, well theres NO EXCUSE EVER, ANYWHERE for that.. ok,, done ranting and raving.. PEACE TO MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS!

    Loving you

    Daniel

    hello to all
i am new to this forum so let me quickly introduce myself
i am highway hippie also known as the road witch
i am the one who wrote the letter at the top of this page and posted by hippiehillybilly
i want everyone to understand that i never quote rumor but only what i know to be fact
breaking and shooting out windsheilds as mentioned by readicculus are some of the more minor things little hawk and his crew has done
for those of you who remember rainbow from the early days as i do you know that the actions of people such as little hawk, mishan and those like them reflect badly on the rest of us who condemn this type of behavior
anyway im glad to be a part of your forum and hope to become involved in some better discusions
i dont really care much for ranting on the negitive but sometimes i become overwelmed with greif that i just explode

You can't get that many folks together in one place and expect nothing bad to happen somewhere. We are all casualties of Babylon. Just some of us are hurt more than others, and don't know how to deal with it. Rainbow may have changed for the worse over the years, and less young folks seem to understand... But Rainbow is STILL a serious blessing in this day and age. And even those who don't seem to "get it" cannot help but be affected in some manner by the Rainbow light which still burns brightly. What if Rainbow ceased to exist??? Not something I want to think about.

i was one of the last to leave ocala this year , and the last kitchen was pretty much an a-camp and had all the food and was all the company i had . so i got to study the scene a bit til i was done with clean-up .

    .....

violence is ritualistic : it has a purpose in a-camp society . if things are too quiet , sometimes a hapless victim will be specificaly chosen by the camp leader ("the Elder") to be expelled or beaten .

violence is by concious design .
    it has been institutionalized .

the Elder controls by intimidation , and maintains a constant state of emergency for the group mind . this is the group's neccessity . ya ,and beer , too . a lack of beer is the most common emergency , but even when there's lotsa beer they still need the emergency condition . so they might even start a brush fire just so they can get all excited and piss it out before the fire-truck arrives .

altogether it seems very similar to prison society .
    or the u.s. govt .

violence is their tool , and is a demon
    they can artfully command .

    ....

    love

it has been quite a while since my last post. i believe disenfranchising is the only way to go. I went to rainbow gatherings to be happy and express myself freely and to stand up for what i believe in. People need to stop worrying about the drugs and violence because as you should know they are completely unsolvable problems. I consider it taking a chance to go out in those woods. Not everyone is always out there to be kind and gentle. I know of many obsurd things that have went down in many gathering sites. I am seriously considering hanging up on the whole gathering thing. I happen to know for a fact that feds rounded up about 30-40 people suspected for cooking meth in the woods. It is becoming more of a risk to go to gatherings than a bless, and the chance of robbed, hurt, or busted just does not seem worth hanging out with a bunch of stuck up woodsy politicians that think they know what a gathering is. ONE THING THAT I WOULD LIKE TO GET ACROSS IS THE FACT THAT when society and time changes things like gatherings and other countercultures are going to feel the effect. it is 2005 lets stop thinking of what gatherings used to be and concentrate on what they should mean in the future.

We have a sort of paradox...we created this tribe where everyone was welcome, and then some real assholes show up, but we're peaceful people, and we can't get rid of them, first cause we dont want to fight and second because it;s against our values to say you aint rainbow and this aint your home. So we have this paradox, created with the very creation of the family, which threatens to be it's ruin.
But I'm getting older and cranky and looking for new ways to deal with what seems to be a neverending discussion amonst family...my opinion, as i posted elsewhere, is that Rainbow is open to all peaceful people. Lots at gatherings aint peaceful, and aint rainbow to me. But what can you do, how do you peacefully resolve it? Tell them they can have the Rainbow trademark and splinter off into a new peaceful tribe. I tell you, I'm down with Peace Rainbow, and Rainbow that is increasing in numbers of violent drunks is increasingly not my tribe...bigoted sounding, i know, but im working on it and my philosophy is evolving.

hello my name is chime. my universal mission in life for right now, i'm finding out, is to feed people who need it and councel agro males. i haven't posted for quite a while because of an incident that happened at rainbow. this might be the time and place for me to talk about it. this is the truth as i know it.

first let me mention that i came into the alabama gathering that you talked about just after all that shit happened. when heart fire is in the middle of the road, and there's a pirate flag flying in the kitchen you know it's a road dog gathering. but i had a great and safe time. i made a lot of new friends that i still stay in contact with (lovin' you nap, leo, sonny & brandy, phoenix, nate & tanya and all the other "end of the roaders").

unfortunately, i did not escape ocala unscathed this year. A camp was in bus village. that means all the traveling families had to listen to the drunken agro yelling and fighting all night. and it did go on every night since we rolled in. my crew chief at the time, planet, got a black eye and his finger broken by a sister (melody) the first night we were there. but i believed i was supposed to sit still in the middle of it and spread love outwards. besides, i had met some of the A campers, like will, in alabama already. surely they would have my back if the shit hit the fan. i also feel planet was not entirely blameless in that incident as he doesn't know when to shut up and leave.

one night planet and i left the bus to go to main circle. as we passed through A camp we saw will and spider monkey pounding on a young brother held in a chair while several other young men watched. they were obviously intent on killing the guy and he was way outnumbered. planet and i decided to intervene to help him. about that time a totally naked amped-up dude jumped out of a tent and started kicking and beating the chair-guy and planet, who was on the ground by now. his two girlfriends laughed and took pictures of him posing while he wailed on these now helpless people. things got real ugly real fast and for the first time in my life, i was assaulted. i was thrown to the ground by my hair, my face bashed in the dirt and my clothes torn off. where was will and little hawk (who i had recently befriended and had many late night conversations with) and all the "rainbow warriors"? i had to be rescued and hidden for a while by my daughter and friends.

i want to quantify that i was never touched by a brother. the sisters assaulted me when i got involved to keep the brothers free to do their dirty work.

i found out later that the brother in the chair (i never learned his name. someone said it was popcorn but i'm not sure) was sent to the hospital in serious condition. we probably saved his life. we also found out he had been physically turned over to A camp for vigilante justice as a suspected molester. this would explain why they were yelling "just admit you did it" as they pounded his face that night. is this the way rainbow should deal with the problem - no proof, no council, no being able to face your accuser, no public airing so the other sisters know what the accuser looks like? no. did the core family down in where it's safe and happy council over the probems with A camp? no. did anyone respond to the many shanta sena calls from bus village? rarely, if they were even called (thanks for all your love teaspoon & . i did hear some good solutions to the A camp problem from arjay, for next year.

so, here i am. a heart-sore sister. i live on the road relying on the goodness of the universe, and my "family" to protect me from the ugliness of bablyon and the agro world. but i do wonder who is going to protect me from my "brothers"?

other than nationals i probably will never attend another gathering. so much for trying to change the world in a group setting.

    Astutely put.
So an analogy from that could be:

Rain and Sunshine often gather but only sometimes does a Rainbow form.

    logical.
So the expectations of 'Rainbow' could really only be as hoped for as the combination of weathering factors in the analogy above if all aspects of nature are welcomed in.
