Just a question, how long is the average download with bit torrent? I have DSL and tried downloading something and it said it would take 32 hours to download! Long time.

The time it takes to download though will change as the speed it's downloading changes.. If it got really slow at some point than the time can go way up there, but overall it will go much faster for the most part.

Depending on the popularity of the file I usually get speeds around 100-150Kbps

I don't USE Torrents. But, I think it also depends on the TYPE of file you're downloading. Movies are MUCH larger than songs.

The type is irrelevant, it depends on size, connection speed, and relative availability. :D

sometimes i'll get an entire 80MB album in 10 minutes, sometimes it takes days.

right now, i'm getting a couple movies and some games, eachof them fluctuate between a little over a day, and over a week.

    /got nothin but time.

  8. I've had from 30 seconds (1mbps) to 42 days (108 bytes per second) along up to infinity, it's all connection, both them uploading (them uploading is huge) you downloading and filesize

The maximum speed of your Internet connection is usually irrelevant because it depends on how many people are seeding(uploading) the file to you. Normally on public trackers the speed is very low because nobody likes sharing only getting the file as soon as possible then closing there bittorrent client. The fastest way to get torrents is to register on a private torrent site(filelist.org or filemp3.org) which requires all peers to share a decent ratio of what they download. Only then does your max Internet connection speed start to take effect of the ETA.

That is built into the bit-torrent protocol. You only get high download speeds if you have gained uploading credit. I don't like the idea of the sites that require you to register. Look what happend to any of the major torrent sites that get busted. First thing they do is hand over their membership list...

Not true. You can easily get high speeds without sharing, although sharing does increase your speed. As for getting busted..that site only keeps torrents for about 7 days then delets them..i dont even think they keep logs but i could be wrong, and they wont get any more information about a user on a private website then a public one..probably there username and ip..

Define "high speeds" because unless I share I never get speeds exceeding 40Kbps.

It dosn't matter how long the files are hosted by the site.... And any sites that require you to register have to keep a database of username, password, e-mail etc.

4 kb/s is ideal for me. I hate dial up

  15. I've gotten 100 with and without sharing, but I've got 2.5 mbps throughput on the machine wired to the router (I'm wireless to the router)
