a recent trip to jail inspired this

    prison poem

    you look at me
    behind the bars
    in my cage
    with nothing to say
    sympathy crosses your heart
a gentle tear falls down your face
    you frown at my disgrace

i go to court and pray for bail
but as per usual my lawyer fails
you'd think a tear would cross my face
you'd think I'd should some disgrace
    but I show no emotion
    deep in my heart
    i miss my dear friends
but I know we will reunite in the end

    I call my lawyer
and we talk about about a plea
    a confession of guilt
    inexchange for freedom
    but no gaurantee
he asked me what I did
    i list off the charges
though the only crime i committed
    was being born free

I look back from bars at you
    the ones that sympathize
and I shed a tear for you
    not because of your pain
but because your truly the one in jail
    can't even attempt bail
    for your prison so cunning
a prison for your mind and soul
    a story so old

a prison of porsches and comfy house
a prison of TV's and fancy things
    a prison made by greed
created by the powers that be
