Now that I've got your attention... Hello, my name is Sylvain, and I have a message. A number of threads have appeared on this forum where great numbers of people seem to desperately want some sort of "revolution"; people who've realized that the way our society is functioning is inhumain, unsustainable, and basically undesirable (to say the least), and think that something really ought to be done about it. Now, the point has been made by many that while we can all just sit on our collective asses complaining about things, some definite action has to be taken to reform our society. In roughly a month, I'll be leaving all the comforts of modern society to live in a tent, surviving by my own wits, living what I believe to be a moral life. One thing I should mention is that I AM NOT TRYING TO RECREATE THE SIXTIES AND SEVENTIES! That revolution was approriate for then, not for now. It's also been pointed out that before any action is taken, we must have definite goals in mind. Fair enough: 1- To live in a manner in which we are being compatible with the environment. 2- To create a society where people are able to live in a cooperative way because it is better for the species, not because of laws.* 3- To LIVE truly, rather than vicariously through tv and such. To experience reality, including pain and all kinds of diffuculty. 4- To, perhaps, be free. These are a few of the goals that are more important to me. There are certainly more that I'm sure you can come up with. Here's my overall goal for the time being: As I travel around North America, living this lifestyle, I want to try to get people to live similar lifestyles (not preaching, because I know perfectly well what this entails), people who are unhappy with our society, but who perhaps might not make the leap otherwise. I want to form bands of these people, not to go about being terrorists or causing trouble, but simply living this way**. Hopefully, more and more people will begin to see that this is possible (AND BELIEVE ME, IT IS!) and join in. I am by no means under the impression that we can completely reform our entire society or anything like that, but I know we can damn well make a good dent in it. I know some people are more interested in doing this alone, and I encourage this, but people being social creatures, company is nice, and bigger groups would be infinitely safer. Those of you who may want to travel with me, I can meet you in your hometown while I'm travelling. So, we recognize that this is not going to be the sixties again, and we have goals. Now, back to the beginning. It seems obvious enough from the sheer volume of the posts from unhappy members of this site that there is indeed dissatisfaction with our society. I have posted a brief version of the above on a couple threads, encouraging likeminded individuals to contact me, and seeing so many, I have been optomistic. However, I havn't received a single message. So I shall reiterate: Sitting around in our houses with our bellbottoms and such is NOT going to change the world. I was under the impression that some of you were actually interested in taking action, but I'm beginning to think that I was very wrong. Perhaps no one saw my posts? Perhaps people think I'm joking? Rest assured, I'm not. Either pm or email me if you are AT ALL interested in knowing more, or possibly joining me in what I'm doing. My email adress is lemongait@hotmail.com . I will do this alone if I have to, but if I do end up alone, I DO NOT WANT TO SEE ANYONE BITCHING ABOUT HOW THERE NEEDS TO BE A REVOLUTION. If nothing happens, it's YOUR fault, for change only comes when people act. If I seem harsh, good. I've had just about enough of supposedly counter-culture groups of people who simply BUY the fashion and use the slang. That's exactly what the government wants! Here it is again: lemongait@hotmail.com . You can't have missed it. Peace and love, Sylvain * Without laws there are indeed people who will be ruthless and violent for selfish reasons, and who will not behave in a peaceful, cooperative manner. This is true. This is why I have suggested people keep in groups; for safety. Protecting each other is in our nature, though our society has made us forget that. Also, this life will not be as easy as that which you are already living. People do get sick. People can die at a young age. This is known as survival of the fittest, natural selection. Again, keep in groups where you can be taken care of and where you can take care of others, if you are concerned by this. ** If it sounds like I'm advocating a very specific mode of life, I'd like to clarify that I'm not. There are many ways people could live in this manner, being nomadic and scrounging for food in numerous ways, sedentary and growing food, etc.
By the way, you may have noticed that I posted this thread in two places. This is because I feel it's extremely important and needs to be seen by as many people as possible. Moderators: Please don't delete either of them!
to the first * im sorry man, but groups protecting eachother is whats called gangs. they are bad. it shuld not be about making groups. it should be about making one group, humanity. this will however probably only ever come once we find life other than earth life.
I'm into this, plan on doing it at some point this summer perhaps, but I can't do it now because I have some debts to pay and obligations to fill. Once that's done I'll probably hit the road. But I'm not sure encouraging a people long accoustomed to the sedentary life to become nomadic is a good idea. It won't catch. I know I like the idea, but it won't chance society much.
I'll be travelling from state to state, wherever the wind leads me, well, and the weather too. I'll be in the southern states in the winter.
hmmmm...call me an ass but i just dont think i could leave my big comfy recliner to go sleep on the ground.
