I think that song is about their success in general, saying to Syd "We wouldn't be here if you didn't get us off the ground, so have a cigar in celebration". That's my interpretation but the twisted view on reality doesn't help so I'm probably wrong.
I think it was a commentary on the one-dimensional money making music industry, that only cares about success and image, which is part of what did in Syd. "The band is just fantastic, that is really what I think, And by the way, which one's Pink?"
that whole line is from a true story, when a record company executive was talking to them saying how he had loved them for a while, then asked which one was Pink, thnking Pink Floyd was a real person.
Yeah, others have hit it right on, haha, i was to late. There is a 70s rock band called Gravy Train too, check them out!
And I heard that him, Max Webster, and Steely Dan were going to get together to form a sort of guitar-based, art rock power trio. I guess I was fooled again. 'Riding the gravy train' as far as I know means having a very healthy incoming cash flow, and enjoying it, riding it out as long as you can cuz it is temporary, and it eventually stops. "the snake is long, seven miles, ride the snake, he's old and his skin is cold..." What the heck is Jim Morrison talking about there?
everyone's basically summed up that it's syd being forced to join the whole music industry and make hit after hit and not play what he wanted which helped lead to his problems in later life.
He has a big penis and wants you to have sex with him. It's been a while since the last time. Yeah, he was probably drunk
