lol i love it how when people dont agree with a point of view they personally attack. it's so pathetic. i guess they can't manage to build a good arguement so instead they revert to childish behaviour. august really needs to grow up. you joined in jan 2005 and you have 159 posts, based on that alone i think its fair to say you havent read all of my posts and really you know shit about me. not to mention you have brought absolutely nothing to this thread. aw boo hoo you dont agree with my opinions. guess you're just gonna have to deal with that. not my problem.

you guys just LOVE making up shit and claiming ive said it. it gets so boring for me having to re explain everything, try to actually read what ive said.

Actually the context i said "16 year old from Newcastle" was in reference to the fact that i wasn't getting upset from an arguement from him. uhmm yeah i didnt say anything about his opions being less valid coz of his age. if id have said that i would have written it bluntly. assumptions are the basis of a shitty argument.

Retrogroove girl, i do actually think france is fucked. but ya know if they ever were in trouble they would probably go crying to the americans anyway and demand they get help even though they turned their backs on the US when they asked for help. the point about us helping though wasnt whether or not the war was just, i was just saying that i dont think its fair that howard gets bashed for agreeing to help the US coz really there's not really any other choice. doesn't mean everyones gonna agree that its right thing to do but politically it was.

i just actually reviewed the funding and it seems Catholic schools are getting the most funding, 12 billion as opposed to 7 billion for the others. interesting.

hmmm i dont agree, yes the small class sizes are better for the students but i dont really think there is much difference in class sizes in public and private?? from my experience it has been about the same. the thing i think is better at independent schools is that by year 11 all the trouble makers, etc have been kicked out. it's hard to learn effectively if there is even one person ruining it for everyone else, taking all the teachers time etc. by the time you're in year 12 if you dont want to be there then you really shouldnt, and having people who disrupt the class just disadvantages the other students. I know that the private schools determine their own fees, but if the govt cuts funding then they will raise them to compensate... making it hard for people to afford it.

Dont forget you also personally attacked other members.

Of course you didnt say it outrightly, but dont try and tell me it wasn't implied, thats blatantly obvious. Dismissing someones opinion is different to saying "I dont agree with you and dont give a shit about what you say because your a 16 year old from newcastle" Really, you and I both know that if it was soley to do with flaws in his argument, that his age and location are irrelavant.

The reality is, as a nation, we did have a choice. Though amn altenate choice may have been a more difficult path, the option was still there. The prime minister is supposed to represent the veiws and beliefs of the nation that voted him him. The sheer volume of protesters indicated quite clearly that Australia did not want this war and yet, john howard and the liberal party went in for it anyway. Now, I ask you, how in any way is that democratic?

Same goes for the gst, the majority didnt want, and yet, he brought it in anyway. I cant see how this is demonstrative of a representative government.

If we didnt have private schools at all then the government would have to work on making the public school system better and redirect the funds. Private schools are not always better than public schools, and yes rich kids arent the only attendees, but you cant say that the governement should give the private schools money when the whole basis of private schools is that they are private and thus should not require government funding. They are a business, they are out to make a profit, why should the government be putting in?

All i have to say about that is, if the majority were anti war and anti howard then how come the majority voted him as prime minister after all was said and done. obviously the majority is in agreement with howard and it must just be that the minority makes more noise. which i do think is true. you hardly ever hear people praising howard but there is constant screaming and yelling from the howard haters. from the outside it would look as if most australians hated howard but the fact that he won so impressively last election would proove otherwise.

on a side note i think it is so disgraceful when they boo him at sporting games and such. do we not have any bloody national pride?! it makes me cringe to think what other countries must think of us. it makes us look bad. it's so juvenile. national pride isnt about the prime minister it's about the people, it just makes us look stupid, like they're booing the guy they voted in? huh? he at least deserves to be respected as a person.

the point is john howard has already created a larger gap for underprivilidged students to attend universities...private schools have much better facililities than public so that is a joke...a private school (like someone else said) is not meant to be government funded.....sure our economy is better than ever, but at our expense..tax hikes, taking away the right to a free education, basically making us pay through the roof for everything...just to be in excess?

backing america is a double edged sword...quite frankly america's agenda is a little more than corrupt.....it is a culture of domination that came into power that way...why the USA already took over america..why not take over the world....the brain sure has his pinkie in howard...its hard to distinguish the difference these days...australia should be concentrating their efforts in differnt ways.....like conservation and energy resources, etc.....time that australia stood up on its own and made a culture of our own.... fuck being the shit on the end of USA's ass.

yeah true but thats no reason to spend millions of dollars on a defense force that is off invading foreign lands rather than defending australia...

ok so if we have a flawless healthcare system (and a real shortage of maternity beds in nsw...) then why dont we spend the money on foreign aid?

could always help someone with it...

Re: Healthcare - At present we do, but if the howard continues with all of this privatisation, our health care will be shot to shit.

Right. John Howard is not going to say sorry on behalf of "all" aussies, because i don't agree we should. Why should we apologise for something we had nothing to do with. It happened and it was wrong but it was another time. The compensation issue, for a lot, is simply taking advantage of something that happened to rellies. Would i ask for something from you, if your aunt owed it to me? No. I haven't done anything to anyone, i will not be held responsible. I am a 24 year old white girl. Why should a 24 year old black girl get advantages over me simply because something occurred with her rellies years decades ago. No, we are equal. I don't ask for more because i had a bad life or my relations. We have to live for today and accept yesterday for what it was. An unfortunality but yesterday.

Yes, he wont say sorry, not because he doesnt feel badly for the stolen generation, but because if the Prime Minister were to say sorry, the legalities would mean that all aboriginal people who were affected by the intergration programme would have the right to claim compensation from the Australian Government as they would be asserting themselves, as an organisation to be soley responsible for the events.

Maybe he doesn't want the wrong people to claim. I sure as hell wouldn't, trying to sort out the genuine claims from the ones taking advantage. It wouldn't matter anyway. The majority of Australia, as said in numerous polls, do not think we need to say sorry for something we had nothing to do with. If Howard did apologise, the aboriginal people would still hate him, a lot of us white people, and might not get any money then anyway. God, if people were held accountable for things that happened decades ago all the time in society we would never live productive lives at all. Move on.

i dont give a fuck if john howard doesnt say sorry... you cant really call him a representative of australians as he has a weird habit of not listening to people and following his partys agenda. i'd happily get up in front of australia and say sorry for what happened to the aboriginals in the past. i know its not my fault. aboriginals know its not my fault, but hey its not that hard to be humble and say sorry anyway... aboriginals deserve an apology and if the original custodians are dead then why shouldnt australia just say sorry as a whole?

If John Howard is so insignificant as a leader and authority figure then why does his opinion man so bloody much. It's completely ironic. That sorry day walk that all capital cities had a few years ago, showed enough apology from this nation. It's not an issue of being humble either. I'm not saying sorry because i have not done anything wrong, more than that, it's not my place. Our ancestors had their part to play and should be held accountable. They're long gone now and we have to accept that. You really think that the aboriginal people would give a fuck anyway if Howard said sorry? They'd still hate him, think of white people with distain (some of them) and continue to kick up a stink. It would never end so i understand why most don't feel we should apologise. It wouldn't mean a thing.
