OK, i know this board is more about 60s music, but i hae seen a few prog rock posts. I realy like the 70s prog rock, such as king crimson, deep purple and jethro tull. And of course not forgetting the best band af all time ever, Pink Floyd
But i wondered if anyone knew of any more medern, weird, phyc progressive rock, iv'e heard of Porcupine tree, but surely their not the only modern prog band. Please enlighten me :)

Killing joke..... they are sorta progressive, but more techno, but not. Mars Volta is really cool also, but not sure what they would be classified as. But they have sort of a Zeppelin/Floyd/Mix of a bunch of different sounds all put together and they are great.

^Krautrock is wonderful, but I'd hardly consider it to be "modern prog rock"... :)

Regarding the OP, hmm... I'm not really into the prog-metal stuff (Dream Theater, Tool, etc.), and a lot of the newer prog stuff I've heard hasn't really done it for me (Flower Kings, Spock's Beard, etc.), but to each their own. Porcupine Tree is definitely cool though, I've been digging them for a few years now!

IMO progressive rock died when it got mixed up with metal in the early 90s (Queensryche, Dream Theatre, etc). Not that these bands are bad... but you lose dynamics and color when your amp is turned up to 11. I'm sure there's some good new stuff out there, but I haven't found it.

Dream Theater is amazing...my favorite band in the world with a lot to offer. Check them out if you're interested in prog. rock. Hmm...maybe check out their album, "Awake," first.

i agree with you my friend.. but in my opinion today's prog. which called modern prog is rubbish (except 1-2 bands). on the other hand krautrock (in 70's) show us what was modern music..i think krautrock in 70's as modern as prog. rock in today..
