I had a major guilt trip today.
I just found out that one of my favourite spinach and cheese pies that i've eaten hundreds of times actually has animal fat in the ingredients! I'm usually really careful, but sometimes things just slip through...
I already feel self-conscious enough, standing in the aisle at the supermarket, reading every single label on every item i buy to make sure there's no animal product in it where there shouldn't be!
oh well, no more pies for me now i guess :(

as for leather.... i can't afford it anyways, so no chance of me accidentally buying it!

it happens. i was out with a friend and we were getting food, i askes specifically what was in one of the dishes and was told vegetables and rice... they forgot to mention the pork. now this was a dilemna above all dilemnas being before i was vege i was kosher.

i feel horrible and sick when i eat meat, dont get me wrong. i also just dont believe in making myself vomit because of it. thats not good for the body either. besides, its happend to me 3 times that ive eaten something and its had meat in it. my stomache hasnt enjoyed any of it... i dont think i saw it in this thread, but i remember seeing someone say they make themselves puke every time they find out they had anything with animal product in it (might have been in the old forums)

as far as leather, i dont buy anything with leather/animal products and watch my brands for animal cruelty and child labor- its not always possible but i try- i have a few pairs of leather shoes (2 sandals and 1 clogs), but they were bought for me and made kosher, the cows were raised free range (not even a fence in sight) and it didnt feel pain dying. its the only way i can feel alright wearing them. (thats what i was told at least. i sure as hell hope its true.)

i wont buy it, i wont support it. i hate thinking about it when i wear it simply because im wearing cow carcas on my feet. im barefoot most of the time anyway, but when i wear the shoes i really do feel odd.

i wouldnt just toss my shoes/clothes though. its wastefull. wear them or donate them.

Or you could just not kill the cow in the first place. Well okay finacially endorse killing the cow (not much of a diffrence really)

My definition of not being wastful is to continue using the items we already have then find cruelty free alternatives. Just throwing away leather just needlessly fills up landfill sites.

There are perfectly good leather free items. Check out cowsarecool.com for a list of companies selling them.

I ate some meat at the weekend for the first time in 17 years! I was in a Lebaneses restaurant and we had a platter of starters - some were small parcels of pastry with (I thought) veggies inside. Alas no - I bit into one without thinking and it was meat. I woudl normally be extra vigilant, I was just not thinking, I guess.

I didn't feel overcome with guilt though - it was an accident and my commitment remains the same.

No, because we are human beings we eat both plant and veggie. There is nothing wrong with vegetarians but I couldnt handle just eating veggies for the rest of my life well I could just dont want too.. hehe..

There are some non-vegan garments (eg. woolen jumpers and socks and leather shoes) I continue to wear, since I feel it would be wasteful to throw them out or give them away. I don't buy any animal-products. As for food, I wouldn't feel guilty at eating animal products which are going to waste, but I don't do it because they just make me sick (unfortunately).

Anyway, just remember veganism is about boycotting exploitative industries, a matter of consumption which should always have a rational grounding. We should always be conscious of why we don't eat certain things, without making a habit of our abstinence, as if it were a simple matter of taste. Also, any ethical vegan should aim at generally reducing his consumption, even if this means wearing an old leather jacket rather than spending a bomb on a new synthetic one.

    Just my 2 cents.

I dunno... Maybe it's the constant belligerent behavior coming from you and others, or it could be the discussion in your forum titled "Open Season on SkipForums" which convieniently just got shut down.

I don't feel guilty because it isn't like i did it on purpose with no disreguard for the animal, i just bought veggie dumplings, and i asked the lady if they had any meat/dairy in them and she said no, then when i got home i ate a couple and realized it had pork in em, that BITCH! haha

    Peace and Love,

I don't really feel guilty. I feel sorry for the animal who died, but accidents are accidents. I'm not going to beat myself up over something I didn't do on purpose.

What I hate is when others blow you having a snickers bar out of proportion. It's like, "Okay. I did it. I'm guilty, now move on." I've had relatives that have never let things like that go.

I know. People do that with me and eggs. It's like "Oh my lord, you ate something with egg in it! That's, like, a dead animal fetus! You should be ashamed of yourself! And you call yourself a vegetarian! Go to your room, while I eat my ham and cheese sandwidge". Yeah, okay. I ate something with egg in it. It's hard sometimes. Eggs are in a lot of things and I don't always remember to check the ingrediants. Put me in chains and lock me away, I made a mistake. I really don't feel guilty, as I said, more that I feel pity for the animal. However, human beings make mistakes. I have done nothing wrong. I wish people wouldn't try to make me feel like I have.

Ya, I went out to breakfast again and there was nothing I could eat. SO I took the plunge and had a skillet, (egg involved.) MY parents teased me and i think it's hilarious that they did because they are the ones who are always like, "Why don't you become a vegetarian instead of a vegan? I'm not gonna give you any food." it's like thanks for respecting my beliefs.

Luckily, my parents are pretty cool about it for the most part. My best friend's dad is a complete idiot about it when I'm at her house. It's like, grow the hell up. I don't like being teased about being a vegetarian because half the time, it's not really teasing, it gets pretty nasty with most people. I swear I don't try to start anything. I never call meat eaters murderers or any of that stuff people get mad at vegetarians for. He's just being a jerk about it. I keep telling him that I don't like it, but he doesn't seem to care. The only reason I go to the house is because I care about my friend more than I care about what he thinks about my eating habits, but it's still annoying.

Ya, it's really hard when I go to my best friend's house also, but for different resons. She's a regular veg, but eats seafood and I'm a vegan and they have nothing I can eat, so I feel like I'm a burden on them. Luckily, they eat out a lot of the time, (they're pretty wealthy,) so I can always find some tofu chinese food or a veggie burger or even a nice salad. The main problem is my school. All the food is non-veg. SO I try to bring my own lunch as much as possible.
