It will definitely not be enough to live off of by the time I get old enough to receive it, because there will be no such thing........thanks, president bush
I'm on ssd and it pays the rent, bills & some food and that's about it. And that's with 2 other roommates.
That will depend on how much gross domestic product (national wealth) there is to disburse each year while you are collecting. If times are good, SS will improve. If times are tight, SS will decrease. Plan on getting just about enough from SS to keep you off welfare. Those of us who have gotten our meals out of grocery store dumpsters and aspire to live in cardboard boxes under bridges should be OK.
AS was stated above. SSD barely pays the bills. We've been living off of SSD for 17 yrs. When my hubby broke his back in an oil field work related accident at age 32, we had to change our lives drasticaly. I went back to school to improve my chances finding employment and became dis-able myself from a work related acctident. I however was NOT given SSD or any other help after my workers comp ran out. I was left with a broken neck that went unattended and I was treated for CTS.. yup, five surgeries on my right hand/wrist for a broken neck.. While I was fighting for my SSD and wasn't working my quarters ran out.. ohh yes they did..and I was denighed by the admitnatraitive law judge. I even had a paper from the SSA that is sent out every year telling you your benefits if you should become dis-able. He the ALJ took my paper of proof and walked away with it. I went to a lawyer and they said there was nothing they could do. I dont undersand this at all. I worked for 15 yrs prior to my injuries and all that is being held some where or being used to build MWD, till I'm 62. I'm 54 now, I hope I make it.lol..
I asked this question cause I live off ssd and a little ssi. I have a very hard time makin' it trough the month. It does pay the rent as I am on a housing program. I also get a few bucks and food stamps from the welfare system. But the food stamps are not enough to cover a months worth of food. After bills are paid there is not anything left. I too don't get the amount of money it said on that paper they send you. It took me over 3 years to get mine. Mine is a mental disability not physical. I'm hopin that at age 50 (2yrs) when I get to collect my widows benefits I will get a good raise...lol
They've been saying for years that you need additional income to make it. If its still around when I'm old enough I might be able to get by, but only because my house will be paid off by then. SSI might be enough to cover utilities and food...who knows when you add all the other bullshit in tho..car and alla the costs for that, medical needs...taxes...all the stuff that arises from having a house...~pfft~ the list goes on...
Did anyone catch Bush's speech tonight? The way he put it, the Republicans are the ones putting out ideas to cure the situation. Are you shitting me? There will be NO SS when I make to my rightful age to receive such a benefit. See... Bush has really fixed his bullshit. I must for once, give the man a little bit of respect. I must say he is looking to fix the problem. Not on personal reasons but on political reasons. There is no true solution to this besides Congress cutting it's budget... which will never happen. SS is going to be bankrupt by the time I make it to there. The younger generation really has to look towards personal saving funds.. not controlled by the government which can steal it. People in the US are having a real tough time under the Bush administration. SS is getting less and less. It used to be 16 people payed for SS for every person using it. Now.. every 3 workers pay for it. It's fucking crazy. The world is going to collapse as we know it. The only suggestion I got is start saving young people. Don't trust the stock market either. Even though everyone tells you the market will constantly increase even though it's downfalls. I can only see the US collapsing in the following years. The only sollution, don't trust the government... find a personal, private, fund that can be deducted at anytime. Every 10 dollars you make, put at least 1 dollar in the fund. That's what your looking at, no government help. Baby Bloomers had the life. With full benefits.. shit... I wish I could be in that position. Be prepared fellow man. Grab your rifles and grab your hoes. Prepare for self realization and prepare for self-dependancy.
For a minute there, I thought Bush was going to propose using closed military bases to fix social security.
yes SSI is a supplement. I'm on disability and do receice some SSI cause my SSD is not enough to live on. I find the whole package is not enough to live off of. If it were not for housing and some food stamps I would not even be able to live in a home I would be on the streets. I don't understand how the gov can set up there wanting to cut my wage while they get more money. They should try to live off $631.00 a month. I bet they can't....lol. I think we should make all people who run, live off a wage like that for a year before we vote....and see who can. Then vote, I think that they would have more understanding of how most of us live.
the point is you're not on the streets.SSi should be cut for those who don't need it.As far as Bush'shits idea to invest it in the stock market, not only will many lose their savings, but it would drive up the comodities market raising the price of virtually everything.
If it takes $12 to live and your only making $10, you can't put a dollar away. As we have all seen time & again thru the media that if you have money they will find things to falsely charge you with, just to get their hands on it. Fines, court cost etc...
