Hey, I've read a few things about drilling holes in seaglass and sea pebbles. Anyone ever done this and if so got any tips ?
I have never drilled sea glass, but I have drilled rock and shells. You need a dremel or another kind of small drill and a diamond drill bit. You have to go slowly and carefully. I would imagine sea glass is a lot like drilling a shell. You have to do a little at a time or the bit gets too hot and the shell cracks, glass would probably do the same.
A tungsten carbide drill should be able to cut these things with no problems. Sold as a "glass drill" or a "tile drill" at larger hardware stores. A drill press would be the best way to go, but a hand drill will work if you use a light touch and common sense.
Don't forget to keep the object wet. I believe it keeps the bit or drill from getting too hot & the object is less likely to crack. xoxo cortnee
Hey yaaaaaaaa, Thanx everyone for the info. I have since done some looking around the net. Yup, they say it's a good idea to keep the glass wet and go very very slow. Seems they prefer Dremels with yes the diamond bits. Found some on ebay. Have a book that's suppose to show today called "All wired up". Teaches newbies how to make wire jewelry. Can't wait.
