I have been reading some threads about washing etc,

so i thought i should share my tip about when wetting my locs.

I usually only let my hair get wet in salt water, usually once a week in the ocean, however the rest of the time i do it at home, bring the OCEAN HOME :)

so what u would need is a bucket and rock sea salt.
You can usually buy rock sea salt from supermarkets for about 60c for a 500g bag which is pretty good.

Each morning when i wet my hair i grab a handful of sea salt put it in the bucket, fill it up 3 quarters of the way with luke warm water.
Then i dunk my head in and give it a good ol rinse out, i do this about 3-5 times till theres barely any water left in the bucket.

Well i dont know if that will help but i thought id share.

thanks man, seems like it would work nicely, i use sea salt and lemon juice and water mixture in a spray bottle, but it doesnt really distribute the concoction that well, I think this might work nicely though, thanks for sharin yer idea.

I don't normally get to swim in the ocean because any water near me is either chlorinated or is rediculously disgusting (aka human feces floating in it)...i did however go to aruba this past week and my dreads were being wonderful due to the frequent swims in the ocean/

Skankleft no i never have salty flakes, as i always mix the rock salt in, does that make sense? I use my hand when the bucket is half full and just mix up the water, and slowly the salt rocks dissolve.

    Hope that helps :)

So you let them all dissolve then put your head in it? I Would love to try this, I was just worried about when it drys leaving flakes or coating the dreads with salt stuff.
    Thanks

Its always good to rinse the salt out with reg. water when yer finished, salt residue can get nasty, and too much salt can actually burn yer scalp, but I usually wash mine with salt water, wait 5-10 minutes and let the salt do its thing and then rinse, it works beautifully.

Yup, that’s the way to do it. I wouldn’t use that much salt that frequently.. sometime the residue only builds up on the inside of the knotty lock.
