so, to put it at it's simplest, I'd say it can all be summed up by that. politicians= puppets so don't waste your time bickering and argueing on here like little children, "oh, bush is better than him, bla bla bla" there's better things to discuss, such as the true nature of our system, and the goals of the counter-culture
Hello, I'm new here and I think I'll kick off this thread. I've read several good arguments as to the president's performance, labeling them all as 'childish' reveals a great deal of ignorance on your behalf. true nature of OUR system? We are a representative republic with a capitalistic market structure. goals of the counter culture? A movement to embrace eastern philosophies in an attempt to rebel against a society in which the participants of the counter culture realize they are unfit to compete in.
I did not mean to insinute 'childish', what I mean is it is pointless and a waste of time. But as for any representive republic, I think that's a laughable claim. But to the second part, yea, that is pretty accurate. I think the reason most of us on here don't buy into the ideas of the system is because it disgusts us, and like you said, we don't have the callousness of heart required to participate in such a system. But as for saying "oh yes, bush is doing a good job" and you can even go into what you think are the details of the so-called presidency, but in the end, you are just argueing about puppets. That is what I meant about the waste of time...
The President is just a public speaking figuere for the Republican party. He was chosen because Republican voters could identify with him because of his father.
If elected officials don't run the country, who will? You say that out current system is bad, but do you have any better ideas? I'd like to hear them.
a better idea would be to not have some elite power corporate family group running the world. a better idea would be an actual representative system, with government positions being served by the common man for one term, much like jury duty. and while we are at that, reform the campaign finance system.
wow, we don't have a representative republican structure? damn, I'm going back to my political science professor to demand my last semester's tuition money back. that lying bastard servant of Bu$$$h.
Thing is, every president of the United States has been an "elite power corporte family group." For most of recent history, only the wealthy have been able to serve in office becausethey are the only ones with enough money to campaign. It costs a freakin lot of money to run for any office, especially president with TV ads, radio ads, etc for every state and radio network. Would you have us pick names out of a hat to see who gets to run for president?
I've got an Idea for the perfect political party! The Direct Democracy party! Here is how it works: The Direct Democracy party sets up a secure website where registered votters can vote online, all DD representatives will carry a laptop with cellular internet and a webcam at all times. Every decision and all pertinent information will be relayed through the website to the voters, and all voters in the rep's constituency (sp) will be able to vote on every decision the representative makes. Hard to get in office? Not really. Just go for congress in all the districts that run the same incumbents against no opposition. Michael Moore came three inches from getting a Ficus tree elected to congress this way, the plant got the most votes but there's some silly law that only humans can be in congress so it was shot down. The Direct Democracy party: Yeah, DD politicians are puppets. Puppets of the people!
I'm sorry, jesuswasamonkey, but there's several flaws in your plan, one being the fact that any hacker can crash your system or steal votes or something. No matter how secure you make it, it's still connected to the Internet, which means there's always a way in, always.
