yesterday I took the Five precepts with Ringu Tulku Rinpoche who was giving teachings again this year in Edinburgh. He preformed a refuge ceremony and gave teachings on the essence of emptyness and the Four Noble Truths.
Isn't it amazing when you spend time with a high Rinpoche and everything they say seems to resonate with where you are in life at that exact moment? I feel so exhilerated after 2 days of teachings.
I guess i should explain what the Five Precepts are, they are for the layperson and so that the layperson can live as alike to those in robes without actually taking robes. the Precepts are:-
    Do not steal
    Do not kill
    Do not lie
Do not engage in any sexual misconduct
    Do not take any intoxicants

I do not drink or smoke anyway so it shouldn't be too difficult, although i am going to struggle to remain mindful of everything i am saying...... who said the practice was easy?!:)

Just wanted to share my fabulous feeling with everyone here, and if you ever get a chance to meet Ringu Tulku then take it, as he is an astounding person.
    with love and in Dharma,
    Uma

Uma, I share your joy and enthusiasm. Sympathetic Joy can be as wonderful sometimes as the actual joy itself.

I also took the five precepts, and an extra five as well ... precepts for a Novice Monk:
    (5 Lay Precepts)
    Refrain from Killing Living Beings
Refrain from Taking what is Not Given
    Refrain from Unchaste Conduct
    Refrain from False Speech
Refrain from Intoxicants that cause Heedlessness (or un-Mindfulness)
    (plus 5 Novice Monastic Precepts)
Refrain from Eating at Forbidden Times
Refrain from Dancing, Singing, Music and going to see Entertainment
Refrain from Wearing Garlands, using Perfumes, and Beautifying the Body with Cosmetics
Refrain from Using High or Large and Luxurious Beds
Refrain from Accepting Gold and Silver (money)

Reciting refuge every morning on my way to work and the 10 precepts, in Pali ... every morning.

    Adinadana veramani
    Abramacariya veramani
