Hey guys I've read through these forums like a trillion times, but I was just wondering if any of you have any advice for me. I think I am going to be dreading my hair in the next few weeks and I just wanted some advice, opinions...whatever. I have already decided that I don't want them to be really thick and I am not using wax. How should I prepare my hair? Right now I use a shampoo that is all natural with tea tree oil. It has a scent, but it's minty and not perfumy. I was wondering if there is anything special that I should start doing to prepare both my hair and my mind. I'll appreciate any thoughts. Thanks guys! Peace
wash it everyday. dont comb it. dont braid it, dont twist it. just seperate it. keep them real thin, dont try to make them grow together, they will get thick with age. just concentrate on seperating them, keep em thin. natural dreads are the way to go, they are more comfortable, but mine took over a year to come in. there gone now of course, but im still no fan of over night dreads.
Yeah, I think I'm going to go all natural. I was thinking about backcombing, but I changed my mind. Thanks for the advice wayfaring...I really appreciate it. I'm going to start letting my hair do its own thing and not conditioning it. I can't wait to see what happens.
My advice: Get lots of bandana's or hats for those bad hair days, cuz you will have a lot of them when you first start out...cuz they do NOT look good when you do them naturally right away. Mine are almost 9 months old and they are not nearly close to being entirely dreaded. Also, make sure you're doing it for the right reasons because dreads ARE a committment. Oh, and be prepared to get weird looks, snickers, and rolls of eyes.
They best thing you can do is go all natural. And def. get ready for all those stares and weird looks!
Ok...this is the second day that I have not conditioned or combed my hair. Of course, it is not looking that great ( at all) right now, but I am still excited. What else should I do? I am more than willing to be patient, I just want to make sure that I am on the right path.
