Are you talking about birth control pills? You have to be on them for a month before they're effective. and then they still aren't effective. at least not completely. wear a condom AND take the pill. AND pull out. and then go wash.

It's a myth that the pill takes a month to become effective. Read the pamphlet that came with your pill, but for most pills, they're effective immediatly if you start the first day of your period, and effective after 7 days if you start them on a Sunday.

Sorry, I didn't mean to be misleading. When my wife and I were using the pill, I remember her wanting to use another method for the first month . She said we needed to, but maybe that didn't come from her doctor. I just assusmed it did... Found the quote below at the website listed. Might help. I DO know that certain medications (like some antibiotics) can make the pill less effective. Might want to bone up on the whole thing before you go trusting them. Sorry again. My bad.

"When started within 6 days of the start of a period or within 6 days after an abortion, The Pill is effective immediately. If the Pill is started at other times, it will be effective after one month."

No problem..just trying to clear it up! Of course, if someone FEELS safer by using backup for their first month, that's fine. And yes, always use backup when you take antibiotics.
