I just saw this movie yesterday. I know it is just out in theaters, but has anyone seen it, or want to see it? If you did, what did you think of it?
i have already seen it, and i think that it would be an okay movie by itself, but as a harry potter movie, and up against the book, it sucked
i haven't read any of the books (i'm boycotting for the fun of it) and i didn't really like the first movies. but this one was actually really good i thought.
Thumbs up from me. If not for Lord of the Rings, I'd say the Potter films are the finest modern-day fantasy films in existence. I love them because 1) I love fantasy, 2) they're extremely well-written and filmed and 3) they remind me of a lot of those great fantasy movies of the '80s like Labyrinth, Legend, The Dark Crystal, Ladyhawke, etc. Bring on Goblet of Fire!
i saw the movie and loved it ! i didn't like the first two movies, i thought they were too long and didn't really get anywere. But the third movie was way better then the others !!!! a must see for everyone !
saw it.. didn't like it.. the first two books were short enough so that the scripts were pretty faithful.. the subsequent books are getting longer and this is going to pose a problem in terms of condensing the action. one of the good things about Rowling's prose is that it is fairly descriptive and can build an atmosphere. the prisoner of azkaban movie tries to do the same but doesn't quite succeed.. that and the need to fit the plot to a certain length means that it feels way to bitsy to me.
I haven't seen the movie yet, I'm waiting to hear more about it. I have to agree that the Potter books and films are some of the best Fantasy has to offer for modern day enthusiasts. And, Noxious gets mad cool points for tossing up the Labyrinth and the Dark Crystal... Woo Hoo for Jim Henson!!!
I'm a huge fan of the books, and I really like the movies, but I have to admit that compared to the books they're not very good. They should be longer and include every scene, and also stay faithful to the story... I plan to go see the 3rd movie on Friday, when it will start playing here, but I'm kinda worried about it, I feel like I'll be disapointed! Maybe I'll love it, but if they changed too many things or not included scenes then I'll be really disapointed...
It was a lovely film if you go see it without expectations of it being exactly like the books. Cuaron really put his vision into it, which might not be like what the rest of the fans had in mind. As a huge HP addict there were quite a few parts in the movies where I sort of was like "what the hell?" But overall it was a beautiful film.
I LOVED IT! I'm a huge fan of the books. . and I had just finished up "Order of the Phoenix" before I went and saw the new movie. . I think Cuaron(sp?) did the best job so far. .I love Chris Columbus' style. . but for Harry Potter. . it made it not dark enough. . I want a Tim Burton-esque treatment of these books. . and it was done right this time. . And. . they shortened it up a bit so it flowed much more freely. . hopefully they'll keep making these movies as close to this formula as possible. . I am disappointed however, that they left out all the back story of Sirius/Peter/James/Lupin/animagus group. . but JKR says that it's "saved" for the next movie. . Which I don't understand how. . GoF is soooo long. . I can't see how they'll be able to fit all of that book. . plus stuff they "saved" from PoA. . God. . I hope they don't screw this up. . Smoochies! Jacob.
I really enjoyed the film. It was close enough to the book to make me happy and not so word-for-word of the book to bore me. I do feel that this film is the best so far and I am excited to see the fourth film and even more excited to read the sixth book!
I finally saw it! I was truly amazed... I didn't expect it to be that good! I wasn't disapointed at all by the fact that it wasn't exactly like the book (would have been boring anyways, it's true), this new director did a great job, he put his own idea on it, and it was brilliant, maybe the best HP movie so far! Can't wait to see the 4th either...
