Can you use halogen lights to grow? I have some halogen flood lights that i might use, or else i will just buy some florescents. Also, when do plants begin to smell? Is it when they begin to bud or right when they start to sprout?
No you cannot use halogens. You can use florescent lights with minimal success. HPS are MUCH better. Plants begin to smell when they bud, and they smell a LOT. P.S. If you think you are going to grow in your parents house and get away with it, you are wrong.
did it hurt your eyes to see this post out of place? I wont get away with growing with my parents in the house? why not? Im planning on letting the plant grow a bit inside just to get it going. Then i am going to transfer it outside.
I just have my doubts that any 16 year old could pull off growing in their parents house without them knowing about it. It's just not easy to hide a 3 foot tall plant that smells like a skunk, ya know? Your best chance is to grow outside, so you may stand a chance with that. Just don't get caught watering it
man, those plants start to smell after 3 or 4 weeks, only about a foot tall. But yes, ill have to do something similar when i go home to my parents house this summer. Start growing them inside, then moving out...
your going to have to have lots of ventalation for your plants and lots of light... the lights will leak out and your fans will make to much noise do you plan on using a carbon scrubber to hide the smell? go outdoors all the way.. and i wouldnt do it on my own property
im currently waitin for my hps lights to come (man there takin ages!), an im gonna get one of those mobile air freshners, u know the ones with the fan....doubt it will cover the smell much though :S oh well, wen my mum finds it ill start tellin her about how ive decided to grow my own to save money, not have to have the hassle of drug dealers (an ill start talkin bout how they could get me to try harder drugs ect), and how it would be healthier for me as dealers an such wont have tampered with it using shoe polish an all types of shit my mums pretty cool so im sure with sum negotiatin itll b fine
You CAN use halogens. I've done it. They have an excellent spectrum (better than even HPS and Halide combined) and are a point source (ideal), BUT, they are not energy efficent- which means they produce ALOT of heat. But if you can handle the heat and the electric bill, halogens will produce excellent buds. MUCH better than flouros.
i bought a 125 watt bulb named "plant grow" -- i dont have a fixture for it yet though...i have one that says no more than 60 watts so ill have to get another one. Im going to use reflective surface so this light should be fine for one plant right? My parent leave early in the morning and i get home before them so all day in between i can leave the door to the cubbord open. that should be enough ventilation. I plan on moving it outside when it is about a foot tall maybe? I'm getting ahead of myself, i will be grateful if it even starts to grow =p
Sounds like you got an incandesent bulb (the kind that fits in a regular socket). It's no good. Toss it. For around $10, you can get a 60 watt Compact Flourescent (that also fits in a regular socket) that will do an OK job without generating much heat.
um, no thanks, ill have a go with it i think. Its called "grow light" so i dont know where you get your reasoning.
