You have never seen a psychologist before, yet you think you know your shit about them because you've "heard things around the place"? There are very good psychologists and there are very bad psychologists just like in every profession, group, whatever. Obviously in American culture the profession is made fun of with words like shrink but people do not realize how much good can be accomplished with the right psychologist. Psychologists do not just look at graphs; they learn from their patients and experiences everyday. You can usually differentiate between those who truly want to help and those who are just there for the paycheck.

I work at an office full of psychia/psycholo-gists. Most of them (at least where I work) are incredible people. There are a few minor exceptions. Maybe see how you interact with the psychologist and see how you think they would react to you mentioning that, but ultimately you need to be open and honest if you expect to get anything out of the therapy.

My mom is a psychologist and recently I "came out of closet" about me smoking and I told her about how I have chosen marijuana over alcohol. She respected that decision, but did express her concerns about it being illegal.

I don't think that it's 100% healthy for your mental psyche and emotional state to medicate / take in any substances on a daily basis. This includes caffeine, alcohol, and adderall. Come to think of it I've recently realized how much I truly hate adderall even though I am prescribed to it and it really does help me with my school work. Ultimately in my life I don't want to be taking in psychoactive chemicals on a daily basis.

I know Marijuana is relatively harmless compared to alcohol and other legal substances, but why make comparisons like that. No one ever said that you had to choose a drug. Live up to your own ideals. Focus on what is most important in your life.

I'm not saying that marijuana is a huge evil because I don't believe it is, but be true with yourself about it and be open-minded. It's the same with all other mental addictions in this world you need to ask yourself if whatever is neglecting your goals, ideals, and relationships.

Sure all of this might sound cliche to all of you, but alot of us could use some inward reflection to truly get to know yourself. Being close-minded about anything is only going to hurt you in the end, and I know that some of us can be closed minded when it comes to marijuana. I love marijuana, it's a blast, it's so much better of a drug than alcohol, but I don't always have to be in an altered state of mind.

I haven't read thru all the other posts yet but I just wanted to say that I know what your going thru ..... I too have been a continuous pot smoker since a young age... and awhile back I was going to a therapist and I wasn't sure how to lie so I ended up telling her and all she did from there on out was blame everything on my drug use

I am a firm believer in the truth but some people can't handle the truth

NO, DO NOT TELL YOUR THEREPIST!!!
What good could this possibly do for you? If you feel that smoking effects the REASON you are going to therepy, then yes, tell your therepist; otherwise, all this will do is give them something to blame for your emotional problems. They WILL TRY to get you to stop. They will try to convince you that marijuana is the problem. There is NO REASON to tell. You will get NOTHING out of it.
