April 30 1975, Remeber that photo of people hanging off the helicopter? In my life Vietnam was Americ's bigest shame. so many wasted lives, take a moment remeber our bothers. Now it is May Day lets get the fuck out of Iraq and have some kind of peacefull life and nobal society
Yeah, and unfortunetly, sitting around and bitching about it won't do shit. Have any of you protested or tried to assemble any? I'm sure the MASSIVE amounts of revolutionaries and terrorists (The Weatherman) dedicated to the cause of ending the war and radical political values other than capitalistism helped spark an end to the war. We're just very fortunate there is no Draft.. the day that happens is the day George W. Bush takes it on the chin by the people he exploits just for his pocketbook to gain a few pounds.
I remember it all too well... I was very young but I started out life on my own at a very young age and had taken an active stand protesting back then. I hate the emotional blackmail of their rally cry " We support the troops" I haven't figured that one out yet. I wish them home safe and sound but I do not support the actions they are taking overseas.I do not support the fact that so many signed up in droves to go fight this war. It's not like they have any threat of the draft over their heads and these days, there is so much information readily available that wasn't back then.~pfft!~ sorry! Seems to be my soap box day.
Hi, From an American point of view the Fall of Saigon came almost as a relief. As in "that answers that question!". The whole question was quite complicated and the reverberations echo unto this day; http://www.vietnam-war.info/casualties/ Who was right and who was wrong? Well I am afraid it does not fall into place that easily. On the one hand; a totalitarian police state was imposed on the peoples of Southeast Asia. On the other; an American effort that was perhaps doomed from the get go came to an end. JFK once told an advisor that "we are going to have to fight the Russians somewhere and Vietnam is as good as anywhere." The Peace demonstrations were front page news in the totalitarian press and... Well the Prague Spring was crushed by Soviet tanks (http://archiv.radio.cz/history/history14.html ). The Polish uprising of the '80's was directly related to the American Peace Movement of the '60's. I guess you could call that "Blowback" Tovarich? And just what was this radical new message the "wild eyed Peaceniks" were taking to the street? Well...Peace... As in "Nuclear Armageddon is a bad idea" and "the people deserve a say in governmental policies." Not so out of line at all... Tundrahopper4
