That is a good question. No they never say what the fruit is. The main thing though that came from that part is the hate of snakes. Can someone say why that animal was chosen of them all?
Wasn't the reason for the snake the fact that it was the wisest of them all? Satan probably took advantage of that, I think they're more likely to follow a wise creature rather than a foolish one.
I know they were wise. I just hate the bad rep that snakes now have because of that fact. Those are some of the most intense creatures in the world. Sure I've met a preverted one (snakes like warm dark places so it tried to go into my bra) but the friendliness they have is amazing.
the idea of a snake eating me out if it decides to see what that smells like is not that welcoming of a thought. Not into the beastiality thing or anything
Well... why the apple. I think I heard something about other countries ascribing it to another kind of fruit, but all of this is just conjecture, perhaps we don't even have this fruit here? I remember a gathering at the mosque when we were discussing the creation of man and somebody mentioned an apple and a close friend of mine gently admonished this boy by saying: "Say [he ate] from the tree instead, we don't know what kind of tree it was" Interesting, I always thought that you got this from the bible... well there you go, you learn something new everyday. ^^
theroretically if you look at the condintions of a place that would represent the Garden of Eden the best, it would be somewhere in the middle east, highly likely in Mesapitomia.
in islam i think that the plant (that caused the primordial pair to be expelled from the garden) is identified as wheat... ~ but really, why do so many folks try to read one of our culture's most powerful myths as a literal history anyways??? MYTH IS DEEPER AND TRUER THAN THE MERE FACTS OF HISTORY! all myth... not just jewish/christian/muslim, but buddhist and taoist and hindu and native american (n&s) & australian aborigine, and african (from river niger to river nile), and the myths buried inside of euro traditions (from the middle-sea to frozen thule, from britain to russia...) okay... i dunno, ymmv... anybody here ever read eliade or watts or campbell or frazier or...
It can't be _proven_ either way, but do you /really/ think it was actually, physically, a fruit that they chewed and swallowed?
If it was a real fruit (or vegetable), it was removed at the expulsion. If it was symbolic, it symbolized something not of the corporeal world - or at least, a concept of spiritual intrusion into the corporeal, or vise versa. Two things to remember about the serpent: it was named among the 'cattle', and it originally had arms and legs.
I thought it was because I don't like eating apples. I like eating apple pie though. Just not raw apples. Maybe later in life I will enjoy them, but for now, the thought of eating an apple makes me a little bit queezy. Ohh, also, the latin name for apple is Pyrus Malus. Which means "Bad Fire" (or like that old internet cartoon making fun of metallica "Firrrrrrre Badddddddd!!!"). Also, if you cut an apple in half between the stem and the bottom of the apple, you get a pentagram!! OOOHHH SATAN!!! OOHOOHOOOHHH! The pentagram is part of the core around the seeds. The demons (fallen apples) are protected within the pentagram, and if you plant them, because they are fallen apples, they are not likely to produce good fruit. Apples have to be cloned from a certain variety to get a good fruit- you can't just let them go to seed- you have to graft, take cuttings, etc. So every specific variety of apples all come from the same tree (genetically). All Granny Smith apples have the exact same genetics (except for a couple of mutants here and there- they are called the X-Apples, and have their own leader with telepathic powers). You can plant one of the seeds, but more than likely, you have to graft one of the original branches (Christ, Abraham, Johnny Appleseed, or Ted Neugent) onto the tree in order to produce good fruit. Or you can use a retrovirus to genetically alter the tree while it is living so that it produces desirable fruit.
Really? That's interesting! Thanks! Oh, and BTW, yeah, some also believe the fruit was a distle or something... I wonder if they ate it again....
