I'm planning my next trip to Europe and I hope some of you guys can give me some advice on potential travels to Germany. I've been to Bavaria before, but this time I want to head north. I'm considering Hamburg, Berlin, and Frankfurt. Favorites anyone? The people in these places is what matters to me. The more tolerant, young, and generally laid-back the better. By the way, I just came back from Manchester, England and I highly recommend it to anybody in search of great music and friendly people. Just thought I'd throw that in there
How could I forget Austria??? I've been to the far eastern part, but never further in and I know I'd love it! Okay, Vienna it is
Berlin is absolutely awesome. People are so friendly and open-minded and fun, and there are lots of cool places to hang out and lots of cool clubs and stuff. Good music scene as well. I've only been to Frankfurt once, but I didn't like it that much.. lots of awesome jazz clubs, but there are also lots of bankers, and other people who wear suits a lot.
I enjoyed Munich. If you go to Austria you should make a day stop in Salzburg. It was a nice little place.
Frankfurt is dominated a lot by suit-wearing people. there is an independent scene, but I fear that it is harder to find then in other cities, like Berlin. Maybe you could check out Mannheim or Heidelberg, both cities have a big univerity, so there are a lot of students and studentculture.
I live in Mainz, about 20 minutes from Frankfurt. Great city. Worth a weekend. email me for more rybear81@yahoo.com ry
hey "happy mondays" ,well as a berlin snout i could just advice you to come visiting berlin....here your touristy heart will be fullfilled in its greatest way... i mean,it would be really a shame travelling about the north and missing to have some nice days in one of the most exciting metropoles . just dont dare missing it,this would be like having a trip to amsterdam without entering one of these coffee-shops,hehe (unbelievably this is what did, pssst!).
