I just bought a book on Zen and have decided to try to find my inner self. i was wondering if any of the members had any meditation tips for me. thanks
Get rid of all your opinions and preconceived ideas, and your enlightment will be there. Its always been there its just covered by your concept of you (your ego self telling you, that you exist)
The breath is the most important thing in anything you do, and it is also very important in meditation. Start by mastering your breath, and then you'll be ready to learn how to take control of your mind. Oh, and if it's Zen you're into, meditate on a few Koans. They kick ass.
what they all said - but i have to say - consistency is KEY to meditation. even if its just 3 minutes a day.
Try the book Lessons of the Lotus. It's a good start. The Tao of Pooh is another good one. Actually I think that The Tao of Pooh might be a bit better. One is Buddhaism the other is Taoism.
Right on, breathing I have found is the most important component. My life has altered lately, drastically, I have been able to focus, and discipline myself more. Any Koans you reccomend?
just remember, at the end of it all, it's gonna be in a little safe in your own backyard. problem is, sometimes you have to wander around your entire neighborhood looking for the key to the safe.
The best advice I had on meditation... "if you fall asleep, that's ok. What a nice way to nap!" I was always worried I was relaxing too much before, but after I heard this, I can let myself go...
