Can't say I've done it before. NYC subways are extremely dirty, the stations probably more so than the trains. No one will care if you do it, so I'd sat go for it if you want to.

there was a segment on the Today Show several years ago, and the guy they followed went barefoot throughout New York, including the subway.

It's not that they're not prudish, it's that everyone minds their own business... to the extreme. Plus women won the right to be topless in public in NY. Not that anyone does much...

Haha, you say "it's not that they're not prudish," then go on to say women can go topless. Nice

I've been barefoot so many times in the Village, midtown, etc. I couldn't count! The subways will get your feet nice and black! It wasn't uncommon about 10-15 years ago to see at least 6 other true barefooters around Washington Square Park, Tompkins Park, etc. Today if you see someone barefoot in the park, they are probably just coming out of the fountain with shoes in their hands.

I've met a lot of barefooters around the city. You'll be in the minority, but you'll be yourself and comfortable!

Being barefoot in the city just aint the same as more rural areas, but it still beats shoes.

i had me some rubber flip flops that broke as i was walkin round nyc, so i just went barefoot the rest of the day. had no problems on the subway or outside. some folks looked at me weird, but i was also carrying a small tree branch over my shoulder. and remember not to lick your feet after walking round the city barefoot

    peace love
