please explain the rainbow family?

i'm kinda new to this site, and i keep seeing rainbow references...and about the gatherings and stuff...
please explain to me what it is?

We are basically a cult of UFO worshippers. We take massive amounts of LSD and listen to CSNY non-stop for 72 hours at out gatherings, in which we paint our bodys rainbow colored and eat only mangos, chanting to the space gods and making love with each other indiscriminately.

Rainbow is all types of people from every religon and race,Its not just about drugs allthough enlightenment can happen there,the rainbow gatherings are a prayer for world peace.There is free food and its all wonderfull no money,tradeing,drums,its home.for a better description there are a bunch of unoffical web pages try welcomehome.org for a better description lovin you

ummm it aint about the drugs at all,,,, cant believe ya put that in there quite honestly,,,, buttttttttttt.. they are a nice perk at times

 

Isn't it romantic? There was a time when I had my entire running away and joining planned to the very last detail. I was a little irrational and enchanted. Maybe I can satisfy the dream one day and go to a gathering.

 

...and every so often we get together for Gatherings. At gatherings we collect wood, carry water, dig shitters, cook three meals a day, wash dishes tend the cook fire, etc. We learn to live co-operatively. If everyone helps out the gathering goes smoothly, and the illusion of 'everything's free' is maintained and a few keen campers are spared the work of focalizing the entire gathering themselves. Because as you will hear at main circle every night 'we are all focalizers. we are all in charge. We are all responsible.' That said, I like to play bliss ninnie (i.e. lay around all day until dinner time then ask what time it will be ready every ten minutes) every third gathering I go to, and spend 75% of my time working at the rest of the gatherings.
