I suppose if one has little to no intution and knows nothing about intention, these words would sound a bit funny or odd.

okay, being a small single gal myself, i truly recommend this: cut out that hitchhiking idea, scrounge up $150 and get yerself a one way flight on jet blue to oakland. i just ebayed my life away to grab some extra dough; you can make it work for yourself.
hitchiking is tough and scary sometimes. i did it a lot out in western canada, and i'm assuming it's somewhat comprable here in the states - west of the rockies, rides were available, way out west, rides were readily available. but honey, have you *noticed* the people in the connecticut/metropolitan area? they don't stop moving to let a cat run by. it's tough. being by yourself sucks - you'd really need to be conscious of everyone you come into contact with.
jet blue airlines has really great deals. you can also look into getting a good deal on a train or bus pass, but my research has shown me that flying is cheapest.

Haha, thanks for the advice but....

I already ebayed my life away 2 years ago!!!!

    hahaha

So I literally, all I own is the clothes on my back, I have nothing to sell, nothing anyone would want anyway...Plus, ebay hates me because I bid for some things and never paid. Yes, I know, I'm an evil awful person.

If it was so easy to get 150 (for me....), I would have been long gone SO LONG ago!!!

I think I know what you're talking about, but after you've been standing on an entrance ramp for several hours in the cold or the rain and somebody who feels all wrong stops to give you a ride it's real tempting to get in anyway.

Lonliness can do that to you too. Sometimes it's hard to be in touch with yoiur intuition when you're emotions are out of control, ie, when you're hungry, cold, lonely, been up a cpl nights because you couldn't find anywhere safe to sleep, pissed at the world (a few days on the road can do that to you).

Oh yes, I do know exactly what you speak of since I have been out in the cold, in the middle of winter, with little clothes on, or maybe I should say, not enough (I've heard everyone else on a vision quest has some sort of shelter....Damnit. I didn't plan too well :( ) And hungry as well, and experienced lots of the things you have mentioned....

But then again, right when it was at it's worse, I was saved by a nice man who was a taxi driver and brought me back to a warm bed. I know, I am a always living on the edge, so to speak, beyond what ifs and maybes, but somehow, in the end, when all has passed and is said and done, everything turns out to be well.

    Namaste

PS I did put the first post up here as to listen to other peoples opinions so I am in tune with other points of view and experiences...

Some good advice here. I would say find a partner, not cause you're a female but because it's so much easier with someone else. Believe me, I got so bored and lonely on the road that I stoppped by Hippiehillbilly's place ;) No, just kidding, he know I love em and y'all should stop in and give them folks a hand...
But yeah, I hitched all over this country and parts of Northern California are nice, but SoCal sucks bad. California's not all that, just another state, more hippies up here in Oregon or out in North Carlolina (Ashville) and HHB is right about loopholes. So asking for rides at truckstops is illegal. So what? You wanna live this life, then you decide your own right and wrong. Much of what you will need to do will be illegal but will not be wrong in that sense. Head to the Ozark Rainbow Gathering May 13-21, there's directions here. I've never left a gathering without a travel partner. That's the best advice you'll get I betcha. That and you ask the driver where he's going and say it's not far enough if he looks scetchy. And never assume having a knife makes you safe. You'll be dead before you ever get it out of your pocket. Lastly, I have google news emails keyworded to "hitchhiker killed" and as far as i know the last murder was in Florida over a year ago (I was hitching in Florida at the time, one county over, but didnt find out till later)
Lately it's been a couple hitchers killing drivers, so it's safer to hitch than to pick up hitchers. Shit, it's safer than showering. More people slip and fall and die in the tub every year than die hitching, so there.
