    papier mache that isn't chicken wire. Looking for a spooled wire so I can make a "skeleton" and fill it out with papier mache and gesso it. THe idea is that I will take it to shows and live paint from that point.
    I cannot weld, and cannot a fford the classes or equipment at this time. Am willing to buy a soldering iron. Figures would be a bit smaller than a fashion doll, I'd guess. I need to get all the painting done in a night.
    I'm seeing a Dias de los Muertos meets scramble campbell sort of thing.

    drumminmama;
    If I am following your question right,you are looking for a type of wire to use to free form?I would suggest a construction wire that is used to tie re-bar together in concrete work.It is cheap,easy to work with,and fairly heavy guage.it comes in spools of about 500ft or so,and has many uses.
    I hope I was of help to you.Good luck.

    when i used to work at greenhouses and nurseries and flower shops they had spools of wire that were coated in plastic. you could try that and just twist little pieces of it to hold the rest together instead of welding. or metal coat hangers, sometimes i do sculptures out of them.

    Loast Cove, I think that's it... does anyone know what the gauge of coat hanger wire would be? I'm thinking a bit thinner but not very much.

    mmm... heavy. I'm using these figures in front of stretched canvas, as well.

    i have made wire figrues out of this thick black wire i got form a local hardware store. i think thay nite ues it in fencing or something of the like. mine came in a cricle and was about five in wide and about one and a half in thick. the whole roll not the whith of the wire, i don't knowe the whith of the wire but it is really hard to cut and bend. it is smaller whith than a coat hanger. the whole thing was like five dollers. i think that fylthevoyd and i mite be thinking of the same thinkg, so it is out there jest keep looking.

    I'm going to try a tinner wire for the first few pieces...while I decide if I want papier mache or bare wire or a blend.
    I'm also thinking cool neon wire.
