hey now...so, i have kind of a weird problem, and was wondering if anyone else has had this happen...for the last 18 months i have been without my menses(i'm only 26, not time for menopause yet) well, a little over a week ago, out of the blue, it starts up, and i mean it came back with a vengeance. i had it for exactly 7 days, and 5 of those days i bled so bad, i couldn't do anything but stay around the house, i had to change my pad every hour or less! and it at times was bright red blood, with clots, more towards the end it became darker. i was actually scared there for a bit, but i reasoned it was just the lack of it for so long. anyone know if this is in anyway normal? i haven't been to the dr. as i have no insurance right now. any help would be great!

I understand, theres so much crap involved in just getting to the dr.

For starters, Im assuming that up until 18 mths ago your menstrual cycle has been a regular cycle, well, regular enough anyway.
Big question, were u taking an oral contraceptive before this and then u stopped taking it? If so this would be the problem. After years of having your hormones balanced by a pill, your body takes months, yes even years to
re-adjust to its own natural rhythms. Which generally means a long time of no menstrating followed by heavy irregular flows.

If this is not the case, as crazy as it sounds woman are known (in rare cases) to hit menopause 18 yrs and over. Yes, its quite possible MySwt1 that it is. Don't be freaked, it happens. But of cause, as they say get it confirmed by your Dr. ;)

thank you for the advice, spinelli!

i have never taken oral contraceptives, they don't agree with me...always cause migraines etc.

i've thought of the possiblity of menopause, i just hope thats not the case!

    thanks again!

I would be more concerned about polycystic ovaries than menopause at your age. Go get your ovaries scanned and take the photos to a gyno.... not your gp! It's a condition that more women have then doctors like to admit, because it results in very "unwomanly" symptoms. If you have also noticed either weight gain, acne, hair loss, facial hair or dark skin patches in the last 18 months.... go get an ultrasound right away!! Something like a quarter of all women with irregular periods have pcos but just put it down to something else.

out of those sypmtoms you mentioned...i have had the weight gain...in a very short amount of time i gained 60+ lbs, for no reason, and now no matter what i do, i can't lose any...when i was younger i had one really bad cyst rupture...;it was so bad, the doc thought it was my appendix, until the surgery...i need to find a good gyno...all the ones ive ever seen weren't the greatest...thanks for the advice!
