My name is Vicki, I'm 19, and I live in Greensboro, NC. I desperately want to go to India. but since I am so young, have not finished my schooling and live with only my 2 cats and fiance, I am too poor to get over there anytime soon. What I am desperately seeking is some friends that live in India that would like to be pen pals with me. I would also like to learn to speak the language. I have a cd-rom that I plan on using to help me learn it, but it would be great to have someone from the country to help and correct me, and just hear from. I'm also EXTREMELY fascinated with Hinduism and would like to talk to someone about that too. If you live in India and are interested in making a friend that's sincere and fun, please feel free to either reply on here or send me a private message. I'd love to hear from you! Peace and love to you and yours.
Well I've been travelling in India for the last 3 weeks and will be here for another 5 months, I'd highly recommend trying to get over here it's so cheap and so beautiful.
i really want to go to india to experience such a different culture. unfortunately, no one wants to come with me because they would rather go to some place common like cancun, paris, and other really touristy places. i saw that traveling in india is really cheap, and i REALLY like curry so i think it would be a good place to visit. i would also love to get into yoga and meditation before i go there too. then maybe head to thailand after. i find asian culture very interesting. peace and love

Well anyone wants to chit chat about India,Indians in general can shoot any questions at me to get accurate, complete, unbaised information because I live in India unlike most Indians on this forum who seem to be non resident indians(NRI's) or People of Indian Origin(PIO's) nowliving outside india I did go through some of the threads about India in this forum and everybody is painting such a biased rosy picture about India when the truth is something else Just shoot
sigh, i can go on and on about the negatives in India. Quite frankly, I have seen totally westernized, rich and pompous uncultured spots of India as well as really poverty stricken, uncultured side of India... if you are like me you will hate them both. I know that this is another biased view, ofcourse there are still people in India who hold on to their traditions with considerable pride, but quite frankly if you want to see a young Indian who gives respect to the ideals of dharma and nistha, shastra today, one who does not get swayed away with the worship of western culture... well you just found one decent guy/girl in a million idiots.
Jedi and Ginge you are absolutely right Seriously the sucess of Yoga in the west is splendid but way back here seriously know one does it at all Its only done by old guys and most young guys/gals are busy hitting gyms Also travelling in India is not a piece of cake like some people make it out to be
India is beatiful and retains alot of it's culture, yes there are rich pomous people from India who are more western than westerners but in the poverty stricken areas culture is still strong and alot of the poor people in India seem alot happier than most westerners. It's not always about standard of living, but about standard of life. I've met loads of young Indians who were very religious and proud of thei country, although the richer ones seem to be less so inclined. Jedi, maybe for you the glass is always half empty.
Yes Ginge, I am from India, well I used to live there anyway. Spacer, I understand what you are saying, however what I have seen is this complete glorification of American culture like it is something divine almost. I saw good cultural values in people who have settled in India and have decent enough jobs. I have seen complete stupidity in other two classes. The poor ofcourse can't think about culture because they have their own survival problems... like child labor, beggings, getting pushed around by thugs or what they call "Gundas" etc. so many fall prey to deceit.. and become deceitful themselves. They cheat, lie , steal to make their money... making India itself very dangerous really.
for me in America, I see more "culture and values", even in people who are not Indians actually. Like Bangladeshis, Pakisthanis... Indians alike find comfort in their similarities here which is nice. I don't know if this happens everywhere but we all get along Indians/paks like we are a one big family ... but go to India and you will see that saying you are a pakistani is like an insult and saying you have a pakistani friend is like heresay.
Thats a good aspiration makno Though I would like to know the motivation behind this desire that you have expressed
