I am making a compilation CD of Protest Songs. I was wondering if you have any suggestions. List all you think of. I might already have it, but I dont want to miss any good ones. Thanks!

    peace love and laughter

PS They dont have to be old. They can be new.

I think Children of the grave by Black Sabbath could be called a protest song:

Revolution in their minds - the children start to march
Against the world which they have to live in
Oh! The hate that's in their hearts
They're tired of being pushed around and told just what to do
They'll fight the world until they've won and love comes flowing through

Children of tomorrow live in the tears that fall today
Will the sunrise of tomorrow bring in peace in any way?
Must the world live in the shadow of atomic fear?
Can they win the fight for peace or will they disappear?

So you children of the world, listen to what I say
If you want a better place to live in, spread the words today
Show the world that love is still alive, you must be brave
Or you children of today are Children of the Grave

    In no particular order.

    Handsome Johnny-Richie Havens

Fish Cheer/Feel Like I'm fixin' to Die Rag-Country Joe and the Fish

Where have all the Flowers Gone?-Pete Seeger/Peter,Paul and Mary

    We Shall Overcome-Joan Baez/various artists.

Blowin' in The Wind-Bob Dylan/Peter,Paul and Mary

    God On Our Side-Bob Dylan

Get Up Stand Up-The Wailers. I don't agree with the part about Haille Sallsee but I like it because it encourages people everywhere to Stand UP for themselves.

    War Pigs-Black Sabbath

    Authority Song- John Mellencamp

Die Gedunkend Sin Frei( Our Thoughts will ever Flower) German Folk Song. Performed by Pete Seeger.Perhaps the German speaking folks on here could help with spelling/pronunciation.

Dear Amanda's Shadow! I hope you are not live by shadow, are you?? :)
I think the best Protest song is song of the 60s, and it is "Give Peace a Chance" or "Power to the people"! Both of them are written by Johnny Lennon, and they go against Nixon, that awful president. They are very honest and good. You should include these two songs in your album! Please include them!
P.S. If you can, send me your Album!
    Sincerly yours,
    Anita.
