im getting a marilyn piercing tomorrow! my first piercing besides my ears and the top of my ear. im excited and scared. im afraid it will hurt... and im afrid what my dad will say lol.
but at the same time im really glad to get a piercing for a much more spiritual meaning than to just be a fashion statement or whatever.
i want to be able to break stereotypes and confuse people in their mission to label me. i want to be unlabellable and therefore allow people to just get to know me as me. cos i think at the moment some of my acquaintances see me as a 'straighty' cos i dont do drugs and i treasure knowledge and learning. so part of the reason i want a piercing is to prove i can like what i like and do what want to do without fitting under any type of label. plus other reasons, yeah :) im excited

How do you find piercings spiritual?

And about sterotypes and breaking the mold idea you've got going there... People will always label you no matter what, it's just your choice if you want to be in the majority or minority.

If you get these piercings for the purpose of breaking sterotypes, you are get them for looks.

    _Very well said Syntax

Wishful & We_All_Shine_On, the Marilyn piercing [also known as Monroe, Marilyn Monroe or Madonna] is a piercing through the upper lip to either side of the nose. Resembles a beauty mark.

    >>>Picture of the Monroe/Madonna piercing.

Who cares? Just get the piercing. There will always be stereotypes. Piercing can be spiritual. Anything can be spiritual. All spiritualism really is, is doing something because you believe in it, not because everyone else does it. Doing it because there is meaning in it and maybe even your religion suggests a piercing to symbolize what you believe in.

isnt doing something just to avoid a stereotype being manipulated just do your thing and if someone wants to mold you because of if dont fucking worry about it that is of course just my opinion also treasuring knowledge and smoking pot are far from polar opposites
i apologize if this is less then coherent im sorta tired

extreme tezze do whatever your hart tells you to. i got my piercings for spirtal reasons. i don't think that someone shold get a body mod unless it means something to you or taeches you a lesson. if not now but sometime down the road. for whatever reason you are doing this it will taech you a lesson that you need to be taght. you will grow form this in someway, so do it and learn from it.

I never did get an awnser from the original poster. How is it spiritual to you? I'm not being sarcastic, I am genuinely curious.

    Um, that' looks fuckin' horrible.

Not only does that sample look infected, it's just a ridiculous place for a piercing, in my opinion.

I like plenty of different types of piercings, sure. But among those I think are not attractive or even cool, are that (Marilyn), labrette, lip, bridge of nose, eyebrow, and navel (especially). I like a plain belly button, and jewelry there just looks awful, to me. And in the majority of navel piercings I've seen, there is WAY too big a hunk of flesh grabbed by the piercing. It goes from something that could look delicate and tiny to being something that looks like a big wad of skin pierced. Ugh.

that's not the greatest pic ever of a madonna... they aren't usually done with gold and it looks like a very new piercing, considering how red it is. I think that the madonna/marilyn piercing can look gorgeous on some people... my old manager used to have one and it looked great on her. This isn't here, but it looked more like the one she had than that other pic (stolen off www.bmezine.com)
