I was reading my local newspaper this morning and noticed in a teeny tiny article something that said " Government opens only untouched forrests for logging, mining, etc. So we have exactly zero forrests that have been untouched. Wow, that isn't good is it?
i think we have some national forests and parks that are still in the relatively same condition theyve been in for eons, well, maybe not that long but the forest probably changed a lot as the people came too you know... i know the alaskan wildlife reguge that is about to be drilled for oil is truely one of the last places untouched by man left on the earth..
Slammon, see the "bad news" thread I posted. Now, it's not terrible if a forest doesn't remain "untouched" by man. The problem is that we go crazy and fracture the forest into pieces with roads and clearcuts, pollute the hell out of them, and completely mismanage forest ecosystems overall (along with all other ecosystems). The Native Americans lived in those woods, and clearly affected them. They use fire to open areas up, they hunted animals and cut for wood. But they did it in a thoughtful, intelligent, sensitive way, never abusively (as far as I know). At least never on so grand a scale as we are today where the whole forest ecosystem is threatened.
yeah there is a world of difference between touching a destroying a forest. its very possible for a human to live within a forest without harming any of its patterns or damaging its balance or destroying any of it.....its actually possible to HELP the balance and patterns living with the forest....
why doesnt anyone stop them? i want the damn forests to stay the way they are. in fact i want all the icky concrete and whatever they make them out of buildings to be torn down or used for homeless people i want roads torn out and grass and flowers and yummis put in i want cars to be destroyed i want pollution to go the fuck away and never come back i want people to be nice i want everything that will help the world but nobody is doing a damn thing about it maybe i should if i get killed who the hell cares. at least im gonna help
True, but this is rarely...RARELY...the case. Usually we're just out there dicking around, either not knowing what we're doing (mismanagement, well meaning but wrong), or totally just not caring (destroying). And Natural Mystic, I understand your sentiment, very well actually. In times of emotion I say similar things, but we know that's not realistic at all. I understand that people need wood and roads and maybe even cars, but we have to find a balance. And pollution sucks but as long as there are people there will be pollution. Up to a certain point the earth can absorb it, but we're well beyond that. Again, it's about balance. Living with nature, not against it.
eh. well, Atlantis was not the first or last "great civilization" to go under. there will be more untouched forests. only it will be a very long time by our current time calculations. peace
It is a shame what people with a shit load of money and nothing better to do will do to the earth...damn corporate ass holes...
does anyone care about the future? just to make a buck, you will kill off our world, wow its sad how much we have destoyed this planet. THERES ONLY ONE EARTH.
(quote) i want the damn forests to stay the way they are. in fact i want all the icky concrete and whatever they make them out of buildings to be torn down or used for homeless people i want roads torn out and grass and flowers and yummis put in i want cars to be destroyed (end quote) That's nice for you, but it seems that most people don't want those things; they want the forests to be molested, they want more and bigger cars, and they want everything to be disposable. Who are you to tell them they're wrong? Are you smarter than everyone else? Should you be the Grand Leader?
civilization is like a turd .....you , the baby ....you want ta put the turd in yer mouth .....mother earth is gonna slap it out yer hand ....cuz ya dont know what ya need and cant find what ya want from there .
fuck this force propped hell , of greed hate and destruction......banker mcnuggets........baked stuffed beaurocrat ...politician pot pie ....eat the ritch ....i say .
there's people doing stuff about it, but money usually wins hopefully when i finish getting my degrees in Forestry i will be able to do some good, but of course there's always tree sitting too every little bit counts, you may want to read about 'Reclaim the Streets' and pick up some Earth First! Journals - you might like. but there's plenty of things you can do to get involved if you want to help, but it is depressing cuz you can do so much and no one seems to care peace ~Dan
That is very unfair to say. To tell someone that 'that's nice for you, but that's the way it is, get used to it'. Do we want to tell our kids that people rape and molest children, people are thrown out into the street because that's how our capitalist society works, and that people in Nigeria making your shoes are poor because they don't work hard and there's no point in worrying about it or trying to do anything because that's the way it is? Bullshit. You may disagree, but she has good motivation and great intention, don't ruin that for her. I've lived my entire life with assholes telling me that and it's frustrating because you and they both know that you're right but they just won't do anything because they feel helpless because they've been told not to care their entire lives. I'd much rather die than to give up what I'm fight for. It just seems that you want to feel superior than a young girl by getting all philosophical and trying to ask rhetorical questions that have no relevance whatsoever. And what is this 'Grand Leader' talk? I don't know about her, but as an anarchist I can say that having any sort of 'Grand Leader' is not the way. A tree or an ant has every right to be on this earth as you or I, you may argue that as much as you want, but that's the way it is. There are tons of people like me that realize this and we don't really care if other people want to drive SUVs, waste resources, kill animals, lose mountain ranges for energy to power their blow dryers, and build roads anywhere they damn please. We don't care and we have no problem standing in their way to protect the rights of others. I also have no problem telling them they are wrong and calling their bullshit. Being smart has very little to do with this, you don't have to be a weatherman to know which way the wind blows. Face it, it is wrong to destroy the earth for money, money itself is wrong, and it is also wrong to harm others based on the fact that you want to drive in your SUV on a road paved over what used to be a forest. ~Dan
