I'm not sure, but i sure felt crafty this morning until... well, let me preface the story by saying that this week is also my mom's bday, so although i'm also a mom, i offered to cook my mom a mother's day/ birthday brunch today. I'm somewhat challenged in the kitchen, as my ex-husband is a chef and i really didn't need/ want to cook most of my life. But I really wanted to make it nice, so i planned mimosas, french toast stuffed with cream cheese, mandarin oranges, and pecans; a quiche with cheddar cheese, fresh tomato and avocado; shredded seasoned hashbrowns; and for the birthday cake, an angelfood cake with sliced berries and homemade whip cream. So i'm like a whirling dervish in the kitchen and suddenly i smell burnt sugar. I open up the oven, and the angel food cake absolutely EXPLODED all over the oven. I have never in my life seen such a mess. It was like a volcano all over the brand new oven. I could have cried. The first and LAST angel food cake i will ever make. From here on out, it's devil's food or bust!

Happy mother's day to all you mom's out there...

LOL, I gave up on cakes from scratch when they come outta box mix as good or better en mine. I know its terrible but this is one of those stories that will crack you up for years later on. That would be a good story to share in the food forum too. Poor thing, did you just go get a store bought one after that?

Cooking is less a craft and more of an art. I became a single parent 15 years ago and had to learn.

Everything else was pretty wonderful, and luckily mom has a good sense of humor. We just drank our mimosas and it was all good :p . If cooking is an art, i'm feeling like the Jackson Pollack of the culinary world today!

I love to cook, but normally I'm the only one who ends up eating what I make. I'm really good with making random rice dishes. I don't use the cookbook near enough as I should and experiment while I have a full spice cabinet to use to my heart's content. We have stuff in there that my parents have used only once or twice, so it's my duty to use the rest up. :)

I normally don't post a response here, as I am not gifted at all. I do think cooking is an art though! I can do that! I love to cook. It's so soothing.
