I don't have any particular idea about croatian people... except that you have good football and basket players ;)
But I'd have some curiosity about your opinion of what happened in ex-Yugoslavia.
I read something on the wikipedia enciclopedy. It is written that the hippy movement in Croatia was particular and claimed indipendence. That surprised me a bit.
After the death of Tito, nationalism arouse and we all know what happened. I don't really understand nationalism; and I think many european people does not understand. Surely I know too few but I tend to think that common sense did not recommend it.
Of course the major part of responsibility was of the political leaders, I think.
But I wonder why during the "croatian spring" hippies and students embraced independence and nationalism. Did you hear anything about that?

we had a really strong rock scene in the 80s and ppl were mostly happy. The thing was in Yu , you were forbbiden to sing Croatian songs (or Slovenian, Bosnian...) and majority of mony earned in whole Yu was going to Serbia and Belgrade. Serbians wanted to create a Great Serbia or something like that. Then the war happened and it was led mostly on Cropatian territory so when everything was over I guess ppl felt like somebody let then out from a cage. Unfortunatly that hate towards Serbs is still strong. I don't know how Serbs feel toward us. To me... I wish everything is ok. :( It's too complicated to explain all, but...
