you mean los angeles or lousiana? If you mean Los Angeles, then yup yup, there is a drum circle every sat and sun (but sunday's is the best one) in venice beach. Around 3 or 4 is when it gets big enough to spot off the boardwalk.

PM me if you want anymore info, I'd be more than happy to fill you in on anything you wanna know :0)

I used to sell jewelry on the boardwalk, it's a good scene most of the time, but the city passed an ordinace that stopped all the vending on the boardwalk earlier this year. We tried really hard to stop it, and finnaly all the vendors got together and hired a lawyer, but the last time I was there (late february) they were going to be instituting the law the next day, and the vendors weren't sure what was going to happen. The law is basicly that they divided the boardwalk into spaces, and they go on a lottery system to see who will get the spaces, they draw names every 2 weeks. It's a horrible system, basicly destroys everything that venice is about. Almost everyone left, because they couldn't afford to stay and maybe be able to vend for 2 weeks and then maybe not. Most of my friends ended up leaving, going down to san diego or san fransisco.

that is horrible.....why did the city care if people were vending? i would imagine that it probly brought a lot of nice people to the area simply because they could buy things there. i feel bad for all of the people that had to leave because of that...doesn't seem fair at all. is there a petition or something?

Venice boardwalk was the last bastion of trult free enterprise, free in the sense of being free from taxes and free from regulations. the current regime, and i dont just mean federal, but the mentality the permeates government lately, is scared of freedom. Sounds contradictory, but there you have it. True freedom, true wildless, true unregulated being of any kind threatens them, cause they want it so bad and dont know how to achieve it, dont believe they can achieve it. Let Venice stand and you allow a precendant for people to think they can just sell or do whatever without structure. Not to be pessimistic, but it was a wonder it lasted as long as it did.

it's sad, and i couldn't agree with you more. i don't think you're being pessimistic at all, i think you hit the nail on the head with that one. wish there was something that could be done:(
