    yellow ran screaming from the room
    where i sat
    knees curled to my chest
    frowning in pensive distaste.

    the mirror held its ground
    and i counted lines of worry and confusion
    scurried past traces of a smile and a kiss
    and focused on the ghost town
    swimming in the deep end of my lashes.
    green stood out; curious in the unexpected rain
    and i broke stare with my own stubborn eyes
    to follow the path of a single tear
    as it hurried for the corner of my mouth.

    the desire for a stalemate; mind checking body
    left room for question
    but you had just spared me the effort
    with a dazzling performance of your own
    and i could have pointed out
    that badgering the witness would be futile
    but you couldnt know that;
    i avoid the headquarters of inquisition
    like the plague.

    jury's at it's end! they shrieked
    they're going to kill the judge
    but the judge was staunch and ignored every ploy
    and the prosecutor pushed
    steady and determined, all the buttons tried and true
    til loyalties were divided and thought was lost at sea.
    the hammer fell;
    echoes ringing with my own words
    and headlines harmonized victory and sweet defeat.

    yellow seeped in; penitent with the morning sun
    where i lay
    knees curled to my chest
    asleep.
