HELP!!! The older I get the more country music I can enjoy listening to. I mean Im a Dead, Beatles, Dylan, Stones, Doors kinda guy but here lately... Im kinda worried. I mean Ive always liked Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson but the other day I bought...*gasp* A TOBY KIETH CD. I am so ashamed.

Maybe it's a revolt against all the RAP I have been subjected to here lately. YEAH!!! Thats it! What can be more Anti-Rap than Toby Kieth???

I've got no sympathy. I'm 51 and I still think country music sucks! I can get into some folk or bluegrass, but that's it.

Dixie Chicks are ok, otherwise I can't listen to country. Maybe you're just nostalgic...I get to hear lots of old navy stories from a vet friend of mine, it's so isolated on a ship...come home soon!! and if you gotta listen to country to stay sane, then alright. that rap would drive me crazy too. try to get hold of some Allman Bros or something, ok? best always!!

Toby Keith has the supreme potential of becoming a great coutnry songwriter. If he would stop writing dumbass patriotic songs and focus on introspective songwriting he would be a great.

Diddn't Toby Keith do something with Nelly?

You know it's a real shame, there's alot of country artists out there with good song writing skills, good voices and who could actually get a message out, but the modern music scene destroyed it all back in the 90's. One day another Johnny Cash will arise.

    Merle Haggard-Rainbow Stew

There's a big, brown cloud in the city,
    And the countryside's a sin.
An' the price of life is too high to give up,
    Gotta come down again.
When the world wide war is over and done,
And the dream of peace comes true.
We'll all be drinkin' free bubble-ubb,
    Eatin' that rainbow stew.
When they find out how to burn water,
And the gasoline car is gone.
When an airplane flies without any fuel,
And the satellite heats our home.
One of these days when the air clears up,
And the sun comes shinin' through.
We'll all be drinkin' free bubble-ubb,
    An' eatin' that rainbow stew.

Eatin' rainbow stew in a silver spoon,
    Underneath that sky of blue.
    All be drinkin' free bubble-ubb,
    An' eatin' that rainbow stew.

    Instrumental break.

You don't have to get high to get happy,
Just think about what's in store.
When people start doin' what they oughta be doin',
Then they won't be booin' no more.
When a President goes through the White House door,
An' does what he says he'll do.
We'll all be drinkin' free bubble-ubb,
    Eatin' that rainbow stew.

Eatin' rainbow stew in a silver spoon,
    Underneath that sky of blue.
We'll all be drinkin' that free bubble-ubb,
    Eatin' some rainbow stew.

Eatin' rainbow stew in a silver spoon,
    Underneath that sky of blue.
All be drinkin' that free bubble-ubb,
    Eatin' rainbow stew.

what was funny, when I accessed this lyric on a search I got a popup to join the navy. :D
I always did like this song, just a kind of pie in the sky type of song.

i have 2 versions of country, 1) the "good" kind(bluegrass, folk, and the likes) and 2)"Nashville" country (being mainstream "i sold the farm and now live in a trailer so im gunna bitch about it" or "im gunna blindly follow someone because im SOOO patriotic" stuff) i like the first, despise the second

if i've typed this once, I've typed it a hundred times:
    BLUEGRASS IS NOT COUNTRY
    FOLK IS NOT COUNTRY
there are those diamonds in the sewer of country and hick-pop..well...country.. and some have great if sappy-edged stories, but musicianship in country is no longer valued to the degree it once was.
    US Navy DH,
some people get this taste for country after bad relationships...the whole cheating and lyin' thang. But Toby Keith?
HIs dad was killed in summer 2001, in Moore, Okla., where he lived. Hit by a bus.
I'm on desk at the Oklahoman and get the message so I call the funeral home for the particulars. Toby Keith (I can't remember the family's last name) calls back and what a gentleman. Here he is, dad dead a few hours, the sibs can't deal with talking so the one who gets hounded by TV-radio constantly has to step up.
He was a class act. but that didn't make me like his stuff.
His post 9-11 crap disgusted me.
