I have been doing some yoga type stress exercises for several months now, and they work like a charm. Then the other day, I woke up, and my whole body was sore. Could this have been from the exercises?

It is possible. I read in an a current yoga magizine that if it is possible to overstrech. I'm not trying to say anything negitive about your routine but you should try to put in some muscle strengthing poses.
It could also be possible that it is something totally different then your yoga routine. If it keeps on happening you should see a doctor.
Wow, now I feel like I'm ranting...lol...see ya!

The first of the eight limbs of yoga describes the five yamas, or restraints. The first of these is ahimsa, or non-violence. This applies to your practice and to yourself. Be nonviolent in your practice. If you end up sore, you moved past your limits and did yourself harm. Be mindful of your boundaries.

That's the no pain, no gain attitude that fits well with weight lifting but not necessarily with yoga. It can work for a little while, but you wouldn't want a 50 year old practicing at that intensity.

If you heat the body properly and prepare, you can get that same workout without the residual muscle pain.

for your specific situation though, please tell us more detailed description of the yoga poses/exercises you were practicing, etc. Also, how long were u sore afterwards?

and yes, your age and general body type would be helpful info too -

When I do ashtanga 3-4 days a week, I am perma-sore. I'm at the point where I feel unhealthy and lazy if I'm not sore. Being sore makes me feel aliiive.

i was super stressed earlier this week and did a hard-core ashtanga session and was i ever sore the next couple of days! it reminded me that i need to be gentle with myself, take my time, and nip stress in the bud. so, despite the stiff muscles, it was a very good learning experience. lol
