Ok we all know tv is 'evil', but there have been a lot of incredible series that should get some credit. I've never been one to be consumed by the tv, I'd rather write or read a book, but I must admit it is annoying to hear people always talking about how bad tv is, tv is bad, but so is music, so are movies, and so are books. I think the most common problem is people don't really investigate television like they do other sources of entertainment. You don't turn on MTV to listen to music (At leat I don't, I can't stand half the bull-shit that gets played on mainstream radio and cable programs) You also don't look at the best seller racks at your neighborhood bookstore for a good read, (Once again I don't, I'm definatly not interested in Danielle Steele's new romance novel or Tom Clancys bullshit fiction) What I'm trying to say is, there are some creative juices flowing in tv land ...some of my top fav's in tv history areNo particular order) Feel free to list your favorites as well... The Daily Show Curb your Enthusiasm Seinfeld The Wonder Years Strangers with Candy The Office (BBC Edition) The Up-right Citizens Brigade Chapelle Show Ren & Stimpy Space Ghost I know I must be leaving some out...
I really do hate TV... always have. There are a few shows that I will occasionally watch- Will and Grace, Gilmore Girls, Seinfeld along with watching the news, but I won't watch TV for the sake of watching. I'm always doing something else while I watch. I'd much rather read or goof off online than watch tv. Ren and Stimpy was the biggest reason as a child that I hated TV.
Even I was young when I started watching Ren and Stimpy, and your 3 years younger than me. You might not have been able to understand the underlying subliminals of the show.
I've never said I hated TV...because truthfully, I don't. A lot of the time, however, I don't watch TV...I might catch a Seinfield, something on Animal Planet, something on Discovery...but I don't plan my days around TV, I don't make sure I'm home to watch something, etc...if it's *really* important to me, I might record it, or if I don't want to watch something right now, but it looks interesting, I might record it. But I don't watch much TV...in moderation, I don't think it's evil. lol
TV is just a medium, some of it is good, some bad I like a lot of the shows Queen mentioned, she seems to have great taste I like HBO series like Six Feet Under, Carnivale, Entourage... I also admit to liking Law & Order and CSI As well as Family Guy, Aquateen Hunger Force DiscoveryTimes Channel documentaries and of course movie channels like TCM I also like some A & E shows like Intervention, American Justice, Cold Case files there is good shit out there, in between the bad sitcoms
I agree Midget, even though there are shows I listed...I never made my schedule revolve around tv programs. I do own a few box sets of tv series though, I'm a nerd. Ahh yes Seamonster, Six Feet Under, Family Guy and Aqua teen are great...I love the Sundance channel as well and A&E. Finally someone with some of the same tastes in things, I thought I was alone on here haha.
Law & Order SVU and the news are really the only things I watch. But I used to watch The Wonder Years when re-runs were on TV, and that was a great show! Oh yeah, and King of Queens can be funny at times.
I don't hate tv, but there are very few shows I like to watch...like the ones below Seinfeld CSI The Daily Show with Jon Stewart South Park I'm sure there might be more, I tend to forget. Oh, and I also used to love Boy Meets World back when I was a kid. Heh.
I ditched my tv in june of 1997, 8 yrs. ago. I don't miss it a bit. some tv is great, sure, about 1 % or less. I don't hate it, just got tired of it, and found I didn't miss it. Shows I catch at other people's places that I enjoy are: Trailer Park Boys Simpsons South Park I am sure there is more, but that's all I can recall right now.
I don't hate the contraption itself. I think it's pretty cool actually the whole concept thing of tv.... and there is good stuff on here and there. It's what happens every ten minutes or so that drives me batty personally. It doesn't matter what show or channel (outside of paid movie channels), you get fed garbage every ten minutes or so (actually I think it's more like 7 minutes). It's why I don't have a cable bill and don't have a tv. Sorry.
I like to watch CNN to catch the news. I suppose it's a legit news network, who knows. Other than that sort of thing I try to avoid wasting too much time in front of the television unless of course I choose to watch a DVD.
