Well, to start is off, my mom is very against me smoking weed. She fears it's going to cause me to be a loser, and therefore she throws everything wrong I do in my face, and as if it was a result of me smoking weed. It's rather annoying, but I put up with it.

Lately, though, my sleeping problems have been becoming even more of a hassle. I've never been able to sleep well, and I've always had to wait 'til I was dead-tired to be able to sleep. The problem with this is, that I'm going to be attending a private technical school in June, and I haven't been able to get on a regular sleeping pattern to prepare for it.

I talked to her about it, in hopes that maybe she could offer some advice, or talk to a doctor about it, and now she thinks that I can't sleep because I"m "withdrawing off of pot." As stupid as this sounds, there are numerous studies out, that show some physical withdrawal symptoms associated with pot, and sleeplessness is one of these.

The biggest problem with this, is that my mom has read a total of one of these studies, and seems to have ignored the part that the people taking part in the study, were chronic smokers. Meaning, they smoked all-day, everyday, and usually for years straight, and then just stopped cold-turkey. The other part of these studies she seemed to miss, is that the sleeplessness only lasts 3-4 days.

Now, here's the problem problem: I don't want to use sleeping pills, and the only thing I know of that can make my sleep is cannabis. How am I supposed to present to her a legitamet reason to use it (to get to sleep) when she thinks that it causes sleeplessness? Reasoning with her is out of question, because just about everything I say on the subject flies in through one her ears, and out of the other.

Try melatonin to get back on a regular sleep pattern. It works great and you can get it over-the-counter any drugstore. I used to have the same problem as you but now I take a few melatonin and smoke a bowl right before bed and I'm asleep in 10 minutes.

Lately my schedule has been pretty fucked..but i just got back on schedule, awake at about 1-11am and stay up to about 5pm-5am.

I found out the only and best way for me to get back on schedule was to stay up all day for one day, then go to bed like at 8-11pm. You should probably try that..

Well, that works, but I don't have pot all the time, and it's pretty difficult to keep a sufficient supply when she's always sticking her nose into what I buy. I would get a job, but I'm going to be attending school soon, and don't think I can juggle both at the same time. She pays me for things that I do around the house and the yard.

The only problem with this, is that she does have a right to get pissed off if I'm buying pot with the money, afterall she is giving it to me. It becomes increasinly difficult to buy it with this money, because she will keep tabs on whether I have money or not by asking if she can borrow some. At that point, I will usually have spent it, and have to make up some lie that she can see right through.

Say you spent it on food, anything that you wouldn't have to show your mother.

Just keep the money for like 1-2 weeks hopefully she will forget about it, or if she asks you if you have the cash then you can just say yep..

I have the same insomnia problems as you, I can't sleep until I'm dead tired, and if I try I just lay in bed for hours. I ended up roasting a bowl each night before bed and I ended up going to sleep within minutes, only problem was that I always woke up pretty tired. A year or so later I ended up talking with a friend of mine, who happens to be a cop, and I some how got to talking about how I used to smoke to go to sleep, then he told me something I never knew.

See, when you're high and you go to sleep, you don't go through the stage of sleep called R.E.M. which is the part that rejuvinates your energy. So, the majority of the night even though you are really sleeping, it's as if you aren't. In the end, you'd get more sleep just hangin' around until you're hella tired than to smoke and sleep.

Well, your friend isn't exactly right. In fact, the scenario opposite to his is most likely true: You will spend more time in REM sleep. It's because the increase in melatonin caused by being high. If you get high right before you go to bed, than your melatonin levels will be at a level to support REM sleep very well.

He was referring to the problems people get that smoke all day. The increase and drops of melatonin levels fucks with their ciracadin rythym, and they wind up not having enough melatonin produced by the time they go to bed to get REM sleep, which happens to be where short-term memory is basically "transfered" into long-term. People take melatonin supplements in this way to fix their memory.

I've done a lot of study on melatonin, and other shit, because I heard they can help as a sleep aid. The only problem is that melatonin doesn't help, if I can't even get into the very beginning stages of sleep. If I'm just laying there wide-awake, then it will not help.

The money situation is a delicate one. If I were to say I had the money, she'd most likely ask to borrow it, and then I would have to make soemthing up. The problem is that she can always tell, no matter what. You know that thing mom's have when they can just tell their kid is lying?
